Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Array Processing in the Face of Nonidealities

open access: yes, 2014
Real-world sensor arrays are typically composed of elements with individual directional beampatterns and are subject to mutual coupling, cross-polarization effects as well as mounting platform reflections. Errors in the array elements’ positions are also

Robust approaches to remote calibration of a transmitting array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We consider the problem of estimating the gains and phases of the RF channels of a M-element transmitting array, based on a calibration procedure where M orthogonal signals are sent through M orthogonal beams and received on a single antenna.

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Exact and Large Sample Maximum Likelihood Techniques for Parameter Estimation and Detection in Array Processing

open access: yes, 1993
Sensor array signal processing deals with the problem of extracting information from a collection of measurements obtained from sensors distributed in space.

An Under-Sampled Line Array Element Signal Reconstruction Method Based on Compressed Sensing Theory

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics
The half-wavelength spacing arrangement of underwater uniform linear arrays has been widely used for better anti-interference performance and higher signal gain.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
