The criterions of minimum number of arrayed waveguides for the design of arrayed waveguide gratings
SPIE Proceedings, 2006The criterions for determining the minimum number of arrayed waveguides are presented using the design theory of arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) and Fraunhofer diffraction principle for the optimal design of AWGs. In addition, some parameters such as the cross section of waveguides and the waveguide separation between adjacent waveguides are chosen ...

Arrayed waveguide gratings for wavelength routing
IEEE Communications Magazine, 1998Wavelength routing can be performed in the optical domain for both long-haul and passive optical networks. Arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) can perform wavelength routing for a large number of optical channels and provide a high level of functionality on an integrated chip. The AWG guides light on a planar lightwave circuit into an array of waveguides

Aberration theory of arrayed waveguide grating
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2001The general aberration theory of arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) is proposed in this paper. The derived conclusions can be applied to any symmetrical AWGs. With the aberration theory, the spectral response can be optimized. Some performances of an AWG, for example, crosstalk and channel number, are expected to be improved by reducing the aberrations. A

Arrayed Waveguide Gratings for Astronomical Applications
Advanced Photonics & Renewable Energy, 2010We discuss the modifications necessary to make a commercially-available telecommunications-grade arrayed waveguide grating more favourable for the field of astronomy. The parameters that are discussed include the free-spectral-range, resolution and diffraction order of the device.

Arrayed Waveguide Grating Technology
Optics and Photonics News, 2002The capacity of arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) has increased dramatically, to the point that as many as 400 channels can now be incorporated into a single wafer. A capacity of 1080 channels with 25-GHz channel spacing has been reported in tandem AWGs with a multichip configuration. Although the total capacity of the transport can be increased to the

High-performance arrayed waveguide grating
SPIE Proceedings, 2004Planar technology and design have evolved significantly in the past decade, both in terms of performance and yield, reducing the cost/performance advantage of thin-film filters (TFF) over Array-Waveguide Grating (AWG) devices. This evolution is primarily due to two reasons.

A novel arrayed-waveguide grating design
SPIE Proceedings, 2005A novel arrayed-waveguides grating (AWG) used for demultiplexer is proposed. Two graded index planar waveguides (GRIPW) were used for input and output planar waveguide respectively, and the arrayed waveguides were replaced by unbent waveguides that were directly fabricated through UV Written.

Modeling and design of arrayed waveguide gratings
2010 2nd International Asia Conference on Informatics in Control, Automation and Robotics (CAR 2010), 2010An efficient and accurate modeling based on Fourier optics is presented to simulate the field propagation in an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) demultiplexer. A modification is used to improve the accuracy, considering the fourth order quantitative error of the conventional formula.

Compact Waveguide Grating Array Demultiplexer
Integrated Photonics Research, 1996We demonstrate a novel generic design for waveguide grating array demultiplexers that reduces the chip size by 50%. We experimentally verified that there is no degradation in performance relative to conventional designs.
