Noise in Passively Mode-Locked Lasers [PDF]
For the first time, phase fluctuations in the spectral intensity of the pulse train generated by passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers have been measured. The results reveal diffusion-like fluctuations of this phase.

Multi-Spectral Quantum Cascade Lasers on Silicon With Integrated Multiplexers
Multi-spectral midwave-infrared (mid-IR) lasers are demonstrated by directly bonding quantum cascade epitaxial gain layers to silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguides with arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexers.

Low-Loss Silicon Photonic 16 × 16 Cyclic AWGR Based on SOI Platform
We experimentally demonstrate a low-loss and low-crosstalk 16-channel 200 GHz-channel-spacing arrayed waveguide grating router (AWGR) with a size of 0.67 × 0.37 mm2, targeting for C-band wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) interconnect routing ...

Hybrid Continuum Robot Designs and Architectures for Healthcare Applications
Hybrid continuum robots represent an emerging class of flexible manipulators that blend materials, structures, and actuation concepts from the established fields of soft and continuum robotics. This review introduces an accessible framework to distinguish key hybridization approaches, surveys current designs aimed at complex clinical applications, and ...

Compact and Flexible on-Chip Spectrometer Based on Metalens-Assisted Arrayed Waveguide Grating
To address the trade-off between footprint and spectral performance in on-chip spectrometers, this paper presents a compact and flexible on-chip metalens-assisted arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) spectrometer. By integrating an on-chip metalens within the

Compact ultrabroad-bandwidth cascaded arrayed waveguide gratings
Here, we present a compact, high-resolution, and ultrabroad-bandwidth arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) realized in a silicon nitride (Si3N4) platform. The AWG has a cascaded configuration with a 1×3 flat-passband AWG as the primary filter and three 1×70 AWGs as secondary filters (i.e. 210 output channels in total).
