Mitochondria and arrhythmias

open access: yesFree Radical Biology and Medicine, 2014
Mitochondria are essential to providing ATP, thereby satisfying the energy demand of the incessant electrical activity and contractile action of cardiac muscle. Emerging evidence indicates that mitochondrial dysfunction can adversely affect cardiac electrical functioning by impairing the intracellular ion homeostasis and membrane excitability through ...

Harnessing the Biological Responses Induced by Nanomaterials for Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
Nanomaterial (NM)‐induced toxicity can be strategically repurposed for cancer therapy. This review summarizes the mechanism by which NMs selectively activate specific cellular processes to regulate cell fate independently. We also discussed how NMs‐induced biological responses can be leveraged as therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.

Pattern of initiation of monomorphic ventricular tachycardia in recorded intracardiac electrograms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: By analyzing stored intracardiac electrograms during spontaneous monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT), we examined the patterns of the VT initiation in a group of patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).
