An unresolved problem in physics is how the thermodynamic arrow of time arises from an underlying time reversible dynamics. We contribute to this issue by developing a measure of time-symmetry breaking, and by using the work fluctuation relations, we determine the time asymmetry of recent single molecule RNA unfolding experiments.

Reversing the Arrow of Time [PDF]
The arrow of time refers to the curious asymmetry that distinguishes the future from the past. Reversing the Arrow of Time argues that there is an intimate link between the symmetries of 'time itself' and time reversal symmetry in physical theories ...

The Decoherent Arrow of Time and the Entanglement Past Hypothesis. [PDF]
If an asymmetry in time does not arise from the fundamental dynamical laws of physics, it may be found in special boundary conditions. The argument normally goes that since thermodynamic entropy in the past is lower than in the future according to the ...

A Computer's Arrow of Time [PDF]
: Some researchers believe that the psychological or consciousness arrow of time is a consequence of the thermodynamic arrow. Some don't. As for many issues in this area, the disagreement revolves about fundamental and undebatable assumptions.

Time, the Arrow of Time, and Quantum Mechanics [PDF]
It is brought forward that viable theories of the physical world that have no variable at all that can play the role of time, do not exist; some notion of time is one of the very first ingredients a candidate theory should possess.

Fluctuation, Dissipation and the Arrow of Time [PDF]
The recent development of the theory of fluctuation relations has led to new insights into the ever-lasting question of how irreversible behavior emerges from time-reversal symmetric microscopic dynamics.

The arrow of time in Parkinson’s disease [PDF]
Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a system-level disorder that implicates brain network dynamics across multiple scales. Detecting the ‘arrow of time’, or temporal reversibility of the brain’s information processing flow enables quantification of ...

Arrow of time across five centuries of classical music [PDF]
The concept of time series irreversibility—the degree by which the statistics of signals are not invariant under time reversal—naturally appears in nonequilibrium physics in stationary systems which operate away from equilibrium and produce entropy. This

Arrow of time and its reversal on the IBM quantum computer. [PDF]
Uncovering the origin of the “arrow of time” remains a fundamental scientific challenge. Within the framework of statistical physics, this problem was inextricably associated with the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which declares that entropy growth ...

The arrow of time in operational formulations of quantum theory [PDF]
The operational formulations of quantum theory are drastically time oriented. However, to the best of our knowledge, microscopic physics is time-symmetric.
