ALTERNATIVES FOR SPRING FORAGE EMPTINESS IN PAMPA, BRAZIL

open access: yesRevista de Agricultura Neotropical, 2017
The spring forage emptiness is an obstacle to the development of Brazilian livestock, including in the Bioma Pampa region. Feed strategies for this period contributed to the development of livestock and to the conservation of the biome.

Using legume-based mixtures to enhance the nitrogen use efficiency and economic viability of cropping systems - Final report (LK09106/HGCA3447) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
As costs for mineral fertilisers rise, legume-based leys are recognised as a potential alternative nitrogen source for crops. Here we demonstrate that including species-rich legume-based leys in rotations helps to maximise synergies between agricultural ...

Shoot and root responses of Trifolium vesiculosum to boron fertilization in an acidic Brazilian soil

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2007
To analyze the influence of boron fertilization on shoot and root growth of Trifolium vesiculosum (arrowleaf clover), an acid soil profile (60 cm depth with 67% Al saturation) was recreated in a column (three layers of 20 cm each). Lime and fertilizer (P

Arrowleaf clover improves lamb growth rates in late spring and early summer compared with subterranean clover pastures in south-west Victoria

open access: yes, 2010
The profitable production of lamb from pasture-based systems is dependent on high levels of pasture production being efficiently utilised by sheep of superior genetic merit.

Forage legume living mulch and rhizobial inoculation in Mediterranean organic durum wheat

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 118, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
Abstract Intercropping rhizobia‐inoculated forage legumes in organic wheat systems reduces weed pressure and supplies nitrogen (N) to the companion crop via biological N2 fixation (BNF). However, adoption of combined intercropping and rhizobial inoculation remains limited. This 2‐year field study compared durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. subsp. durum (

Optimizing Temperature Requirements for Clover Seed Germination

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 2, Issue 1, Page 1-7, 2019., 2019
Core Ideas Temperature significantly affects the time and rate of clover (Trifolium spp.) germination. Germination and vigor were evaluated from −1.0 to 48.0°C at approximately 1.0°C increments. Tested cultivars maintained 80% + germination from 4.9 to 28.2°C, on average.

Does the Inclusion of French Serradella (Ornithopus sativus Brot.) Enhance Productivity and Resilience of Pastures in Low‐Rainfall Mixed Farms in Neutral to Alkaline Soils?

open access: yesGrass and Forage Science, Volume 81, Issue 3, July-September 2026.
ABSTRACTFrench serradella (Ornithopus sativus Brot.) is an annual pasture legume typically grown on acidic soils, but its potential for production in low‐rainfall, neutral to alkaline sandy soils of southern Australia is poorly documented. A series of experiments across low‐rainfall mixed‐farming regions assessed the adaptive advantages of French ...
