Potential Impacts of Tailings and Tailings Cover Fertilization on Arsenic Mobility in Surface and Ground Waters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A number of mining sites worldwide, particularly gold mines, have tailings management facilities (TMFs) that contain high levels of arsenic. Current closed mine site regulatory agencies tend to prefer revegetation of TMFs as part of the mandated ...

High‐Entropy Magnetism of Murunskite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study of murunskite (K2FeCu3S4) reveals that its magnetic and orbital order emerges in a simple I4/mmm crystal structure with complete disorder in the transition metal positions. Mixed‐valence Fe ions randomly occupy 1/4 of the tetrahedral sites, with the remaining 3/4 being filled by non‐magnetic Cu+ ions.

Synthesis and characterization of nanozeolite based composite fertilizer for sustainable release and use efficiency of nutrients

open access: yesHeliyon, 2021
In this research work, we propose macronutrients incorporated slow-release based nano-fertilizer using nanozeolite as a carrier. A simple chemical approach was used to synthesis the proposed nanozeolite composite fertilizer (NZCF).

Chloride‐Mediated Electron Buffering on Ni‐Fe Anodes for Ampere‐Level Alkaline Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Utilizing abundant chloride ion (Cl−) of seawater, the small organic molecule (SOM) layer on the electrocatalyst surface is converted to SOM‐Cl layer. Meanwhile, the conjugated structure of SOM is modified. SOM‐Cl layer can effectively mitigate the damage caused by the highly oxidative environment.

Beyond medical treatment, arsenic poisoning in rural Bangladesh

open access: yesSocial Medicine, 2011
Millions of drinking water supplies in Bangladesh are contaminated with potentially lethal levels of arsenic. This discovery in the late 1990s sparked widespread international concerns and generated a substantial amount of funds.

Association between body mass index and arsenic methylation in three studies of Bangladeshi adults and adolescents

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2021
Background: Water-borne arsenic (As) exposure is a global health problem. Once ingested, inorganic As (iAs) is methylated to mono-methyl (MMA) and dimethyl (DMA) arsenicals via one-carbon metabolism (OCM).

Substrate Engineering for Durable Omniphobic Liquid‐Like Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The significant yet less investigated role of substrates in determining the liquid‐repellency and mechanical durability of liquid‐like surfaces (LLSs) is explored. Thick and crack‐free sol–gel silica intermediary layers are developed that can smoothen substrate asperity roughness even at the micron scale, enabling omniphobic polydimethylsiloxane‐based ...
