Kolmogorov complexity spectrum for use in analysis of UV-B radiation time series

open access: yes, 2013
We have used the Kolmogorov complexity and sample entropy measures to estimate the complexity of the UV-B radiation time series in the Vojvodina region (Serbia) for the period 1990-2007.

Bridging maternal effects and epitranscriptomics: A novel perspective in developmental biology

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Maternal effects, encompassing both genetic (maternally expressed gene products) and non‐genetic (maternal state) influences, are powerful determinants of offspring phenotype, yet their RNA‐level mechanisms remain incompletely resolved. In parallel, epitranscriptomics, an emerging field centered on chemical modifications to RNA, has revealed ...

Differentiated dysplasia is a frequent precursor or associated lesion in invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity and pharynx [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The source of precursor lesions of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral cavity and pharynx, their classification, and grading are controversial. In contrast, vulvar and penile cancer precursor lesions are known to be related to human papillomavirus ...

Chemical Composition, Amino Acids, Phenolic Profiles and Bioavailability of Minerals in Livingstone Potato (Plectranthus esculentus) as Affected by Different Processing Techniques

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Boiling retained the nutrients and polyphenol compounds in Plectranthus esculentus tubers better than frying or roasting. A bioavailability study showed that the phytates and oxalates in the tuber may not affect the bioavailabilities of calcium, zinc, or iron in Plectranthus esculentus tubers when eaten.

Natural organic matter in sedimentary basins and its relation to arsenic in anoxic ground water: the example of West Bengal and its worldwide implications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In order to investigate the mechanism of As release to anoxic ground water in alluvial aquifers, the authors sampled ground waters from 3 piezometer nests, 79 shallow (80 m) wells, in an area 750 m by 450 m, just north of Barasat, near Kolkata (Calcutta),

Toxicological Evaluation of the Undesirable Components in Processed Infant Foods Using Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The detection of toxins in baby food using artificial intelligence. ABSTRACT Infant foods and baby formulas are becoming increasingly popular across the globe owing to their ease of consumption and nutritional value specific to infants. Impurities may find their way into the food chain at any point from the acquisition of raw materials to final ...

Arsenic in drinking water wells on the Bolivian high plain: field monitoring and effect of salinity on removal efficiency of iron-oxides-containing filters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In the rural areas around Oruro (Bolivia), untreated groundwater is used directly as drinking water. This research aimed to evaluate the general drinking water quality, with focus on arsenic (As) concentrations, based on analysis of 67 samples from about
