Construction of weakly CUD sequences for MCMC sampling
In Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling considerable thought goes into constructing random transitions. But those transitions are almost always driven by a simulated IID sequence.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

The Unanticipated Effects of Insider Trading Regulation [PDF]
Using a sample of 2,827 firms from 21 countries we examine whether insider trading laws achieve the primary objective for which they are introduced – protecting uninformed investors from private information-based trading.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Importance sampling the union of rare events with an application to power systems analysis
We consider importance sampling to estimate the probability $\mu$ of a union of $J$ rare events $H_j$ defined by a random variable $\boldsymbol{x}$. The sampler we study has been used in spatial statistics, genomics and combinatorics going back at least ...

The Chemistry of Art and the Art of Chemistry
This article examines the relationship between chemistry and art, particularly in the area of painting. The mixing of salt solutions leads to the preparation of colored products that are used in painting. The connection of the properties of substances with their preparation in the school chemistry laboratory and their applications in everyday life ...

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...
