If it does not help, it might hurt: Pharmacodynamics of a second IVIg course in Guillain–Barré syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) is an effective treatment for Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), but recovery varies between patients. This study aims to evaluate the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of a single and a second IVIg dose (SID) in patients with GBS.

Ischemia-modified albumin in type 2 diabetic patients with and without peripheral arterial disease

open access: yesClinics, 2011
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether there is an association between serum ischemia-modified albumin and the risk factor profile in type 2 diabetic patients with peripheral arterial disease and to identify the risk markers for peripheral arterial disease ...

Fused Segmentation of Geometric Models for Myocardium and Coronary Artery via Medial Axis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Coronary arteries and their branches supply blood to myocardium. The obstruction of coronary arteries results in significant loss of myocardium, called acute myocardial infarction, and the number one cause of death globally. Hence, quantification of the regional amount of heart muscle subtended by obstructed coronary arteries is of critical value in ...

UDP‐glucose dehydrogenase variants cause dystroglycanopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract UDP‐glucose dehydrogenase (UGDH) variants have been associated with hypotonia, developmental delay, and epilepsy. We report the first pathologic evidence of dystroglycanopathy in siblings with UGDH variants. Both presented around 6 months with developmental delay and elevated creatinine kinase.

The burden of intracranial atherosclerosis on cerebral small vessel disease: A community cohort study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Exploring the prevalence and association between intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) and cerebral small vessel diseases (CSVD), this study delved beyond the current scope, utilising high‐resolution vessel wall MRI (HRVW‐MRI) to investigate how subtle changes in intracranial atherosclerotic features influence the various burdens of ...

Music Interventions in Hyperacute and Acute Stroke Patients: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Feasibility Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Music interventions have been shown to have beneficial effects on hemodynamic parameters, pain, and anxiety in various medical settings. However, music interventions in the setting of acute stroke have not been studied. The objective of this trial was to perform a pilot feasibility study of music interventions in the setting of acute

Experimental comparative study of a novel drug-eluting arteriovenous graft in a sheep model

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
BackgroundArteriovenous (AV) grafts often develop severe complications of stenosis due to neointimal proliferation that occurs either at the venous anastomosis site or at the outflow receiving vein. This study compares primary patency during 12 months of

Occurrence, Risk Factors, and Prognosis of Acute Cerebral Microinfarcts in CADASIL

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is the most common monogenic cerebral small vessel disease in adults. This study investigates the occurrence, risk factors, and prognosis of acute cerebral microinfarcts (ACMIs) in patients with CADASIL.

Relationship between blood pressure and flow rate in arteries using a modified Windkessel model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
This study examined the flow rate in arteries using the modified Windkessel model, considering various models for blood pressure. An exact solution was derived using a Laplace transform method and the effects of blood pressure on the flow rate in an artery were examined.
