Further Evidence That Chondrocalcinosis 1 (CCAL1) is a Confirmed Mendelian Phenotype With a Known Molecular Basis

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 197, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Chondrocalcinosis (CCAL), also known as calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease (CPPDD), is a frequent multifactorial condition in the elderly, but there are two rare autosomal dominant Mendelian forms, CCAL1 (OMIM %600668) and CCAL2. Only three families with molecularly proven CCAL1 have been reported.

Effects of partial wrist arthrodesis on loading at the radiocarpal joints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The radiocarpal joint plays an important role in the stabilization of the wrist joint. Degenerative diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis can destabilize the joint and compromise the kinematics of the carpal bones.

Outcome After Salvage Arthrodesis for Failed Total Ankle Replacement

open access: yesFoot & ankle international, 2016
Background: In cases with total ankle replacement (TAR) failure, a decision between revision TAR and salvage arthrodesis (SA) must be made. In a previous study, we analyzed revision TAR and found low functional outcome and satisfaction.

Therapeutic Approaches for Enhancing Spinal Fusion in Low Back Pain: A Review With a Focus on the Elderly

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 4, December 2025.
The review summarizes the current clinical problems of non‐spinal fusions in orthopaedics. I refers to selected biological examples of how ossification can be better achieved in elderly patients. ABSTRACT Background Low back pain (LBP) is a prevalent cause of disability worldwide, particularly among the elderly, with degenerative spinal conditions ...

What is the Gold Standard for Advanced Hallux Rigidus? Minimum 10 Year Follow-Up Comparison of Interposition Arthroplasty and Arthrodesis Shows Similar Outcomes

open access: yesFoot & Ankle Orthopaedics
Category: Midfoot/Forefoot; Other Introduction/ Purpose: Hallux rigidus is characterized by arthritic changes of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) with joint space narrowing, osteophyte formation, and painful MTPJ motion.

Surgical ankylosis of the radioulnar joint to manage chronic medial coronoid disease in dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract In this small pilot study, we describe a new surgical technique, ankylosis of the radioulnar joint, in managing chronic persistent lameness in three dogs with medial coronoid disease. Computed tomography and arthroscopic elbow joint re‐evaluation were performed before surgical ankylosis of the radioulnar joint.

Does Concurrent Distal Tibiofibular Joint Arthrodesis Affect the Nonunion and Complication Rates of Tibiotalar Arthrodesis?

open access: yesFoot & Ankle Orthopaedics, 2018
Category: Ankle Introduction/Purpose: Tibiotalar arthrodesis is generally a successful treatment option for patients with end stage ankle arthritis. However, there is a 9% risk of nonunion in patients undergoing primary tibiotalar arthrodesis.
