Pantalar arthrodesis creates a sensate prosthesis consisting of the ankle and rearfoot complex. Its primary purpose is to create a plantigrade stable rearfoot and ankle. Special attention must be placed on the technical aspects of this procedure, particularly the positioning of the ankle and subtalar complex.

NC arthrodesis is a useful procedure to alleviate pain secondary to arthritis or collapse of the medial longitudinal arch. Fusion of this joint provides stabilization of the medial column and is often used in conjunction with other flatfoot-correcting procedures to restore normal function to the foot. Because the NC joint is the center of the lever arm

Subtalar arthrodesis is an accepted surgical procedure for hindfoot disorders including rheumatoid arthritis, postinfectious arthritis, degenerative joint disease, trauma, neuromuscular disorders, and residual of congenital foot deformities. This procedure has the advantage of joint specific stabilization without restricting motion in the uninvolved ...

Numerous techniques for ankle arthrodesis have been reported since the original description of compression arthrodesis. From the early 1950s to the mid 1970s, external fixation was the dominant technique utilized. In the late 1970s and 1980s, internal fixation techniques for ankle arthrodesis were developed. In the 1990s, arthroscopic ankle arthrodesis

ABSTRACTTriple arthrodesis is the surgical fusion of the calcaneocuboid, talonavicular, and talocalcaneal joints of the foot. This is a palliative surgical procedure used to treat many painful hindfoot disorders (eg, clubfoot deformity, arthritis, Charcot's joint disease). Patient benefits include pain relief and improvement in foot function.

Triple arthrodesis is a useful operation for the relief of chronic pain and repair of instability and deformity in the rearfoot. Due to the nature of the procedure, preoperative surgical planning is of extreme importance to minimize the incidence of long-term problems associated with rearfoot fusion.

Lunotriquetral arthrodesis has been recommended for the treatment of disabling pain at the lunotriquetral joint after more conservative measures have failed. We retrospectively analyzed a series of 22 patients treated with a lunotriquetral arthrodesis for presence of fusion, method of fixation, duration of immobilization, carpal alignment, pain relief,

This retrospective review of midcarpal arthrodesis was undertaken between July 1985 and March 1990. Fourteen patients were identified and 11 were available for follow-up evaluation. Mean follow-up time was 66 months (range, 48-102 months). Four patients eventually underwent total wrist arthrodesis due to continued pain. Seven patients improved and each

Arthrodesis of the wrist is an excellent procedure indicated only in carefully selected and evaluated cases. Eleven patients with various pathological lesions were treated by a modification of standard surgical techniques. Good stability and bone graft placement was secured by an easily removed internal fixation device.
