Summary1. One hundred and twenty‐two operations for arthrodesis of the hip have been studied to determine the efficiency of the various techniques in obtaining bony fusion.2. It is suggested that the age of the patient, the shape of the upper end of the femur and the degree of stiffness in the hip should all be taken into account before choosing the ...

Arthrodesis of the wrist is an excellent procedure indicated only in carefully selected and evaluated cases. Eleven patients with various pathological lesions were treated by a modification of standard surgical techniques. Good stability and bone graft placement was secured by an easily removed internal fixation device.

Once an arthrodesis, always an arthrodesis?
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 2016An arthrodesis of the shoulder is historically a solution for severe shoulder joint problems, for which no prosthetic solution is deemed possible. With the introduction of the reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA), which is intrinsically stable at the glenohumeral joint, it seems logical to consider conversion of a painful arthrodesis into a RSA ...

This article presents an overview of current ankle arthrodesis techniques. Surgical indications, pathophysiology of the ankle joint, preoperative assessment of the patient, surgical techniques for ankle fusion, and complications/sequelae are discussed. The surgical techniques section focuses on crossed screws arthrodesis and intramedullary nailing for ...

Isolated arthrodesis of the navicular complex is a means of restoring the integrity of the medial column. This facilitates pain relief and improved function. This option should be considered in the treatment of degenerative disease in these joints. Grade III PTTI may be managed with arthrodesis of the navicular complex , provided degenerative changes ...

A satisfactory outcome after isolated subtalar joint arthrodesis is dependent on proper patient selection, understanding the pathology and indications, and choosing the appropriate operative technique. Performing a thorough history and physical examination will assist in this process.

About 90 % of all cases of painful posttraumatic ankle arthritis can be very successfully treated with a minor invasive ankle arthrodesis technique by using a small anterior approach and a fixation with four 6. 5 mm screws of which the posteromedial and transfibular one are inserted percutaneously. The results with this standardized procedure have been

ABSTRACTTriple arthrodesis is the surgical fusion of the calcaneocuboid, talonavicular, and talocalcaneal joints of the foot. This is a palliative surgical procedure used to treat many painful hindfoot disorders (eg, clubfoot deformity, arthritis, Charcot's joint disease). Patient benefits include pain relief and improvement in foot function.

One hundred cases of Lambrinudi's arthrodesis are reviewed. The shortest follow-up was one year. and the longest twenty-seven years. Thirty-seven per cent were successful. Nineteen per cent were failures; many of these were associated with faulty technique, and one method of operation which gives good results is described.

Although RSL fusion is a viable option for isolated radiocarpal arthritis, the enthusiasm for this procedure should be tempered with the reality that kinematics of the wrist is not entirely suited for independent midcarpal flexion and extension [10]. Limited wrist flexion and extension is expected following a successful RSL arthrodesis.
