There has been significant enhancement in surgical management of hallux valgus deformity. Recognition of the role of medial column hypermobility has resulted in better functional outcomes with decreased risk of recurrence. Modern techniques have evolved to include enhanced fixation in a move toward minimal postoperative downtime.

Tibiotalocalcaneal Arthrodesis
Foot & Ankle International, 2000The purpose of this multicenter retrospective study of 55 patients (56 ankles) who underwent simultaneous tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis with severe disease involving the ankle and subtalar joints was to determine improvement of pain and function. The surgical indications included osteoarthritis, posttraumatic injury, failed previous surgery, talar ...

Arthrodesis is one of the last options available to obtain a stable, painless knee in a patient with a damaged knee joint that is not amenable to reconstructive measures. Common indications for knee arthrodesis include failed total knee arthroplasty, periarticular tumor, posttraumatic arthritis, and chronic sepsis. The primary contraindications to knee

Twenty-one patients underwent excision of a Campanacci grade III giant cell tumour of the distal radius and had reconstruction using a proximal fibula autograft. We compared the functional results of wrist arthrodesis versus arthroplasty. All 21 patients

Arthrodesis of the thumb carpometacarpal, metacarpophalangeal, and interphalangeal joints are well-established options in the management of arthritis, instability, and/or deformity. This review includes a general review of the indications and technique of arthrodesis and recent review of the literature.New literature has focused on the role of ...

Fracture-dislocation of the tarsometatarsal joint is a major injury and can be associated with a chronic disability. The incidence is low, but the long-term results can be a devastating problem to the patient. This article reviews the anatomy, mechanism of injury, classifications, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and long-term results of a fracture ...

Lunotriquetral arthrodesis has been recommended for the treatment of disabling pain at the lunotriquetral joint after more conservative measures have failed. We retrospectively analyzed a series of 22 patients treated with a lunotriquetral arthrodesis for presence of fusion, method of fixation, duration of immobilization, carpal alignment, pain relief,

For lesser toe deformities, fusion of the proximal interphalangeal joint offers good long-term correction and predictability. Digital arthrodesis has been described for longer than 100 years in the literature, and current techniques closely resemble those described in early accounts.
