Shoulder arthrodesis is an end-stage, salvage procedure for the glenohumeral joint and can provide a pain-free, stable shoulder with varying levels of function. Common indications include brachial plexus injury, chronic instability with rotator cuff and deltoid dysfunction, and failed shoulder arthroplasty.

Subtalar arthrodesis is an accepted surgical procedure for hindfoot disorders including rheumatoid arthritis, postinfectious arthritis, degenerative joint disease, trauma, neuromuscular disorders, and residual of congenital foot deformities. This procedure has the advantage of joint specific stabilization without restricting motion in the uninvolved ...

Strong personal opinion, previous training, and favorable past experience with one particular technique dictate any given surgeon's choice of procedure for ankle arthrodesis. But are these criteria valid for the selection of one technique over another? For information on this point, critical evaluation of the several surgical techniques used in a large

NC arthrodesis is a useful procedure to alleviate pain secondary to arthritis or collapse of the medial longitudinal arch. Fusion of this joint provides stabilization of the medial column and is often used in conjunction with other flatfoot-correcting procedures to restore normal function to the foot. Because the NC joint is the center of the lever arm

Triple arthrodesis is a useful operation for the relief of chronic pain and repair of instability and deformity in the rearfoot. Due to the nature of the procedure, preoperative surgical planning is of extreme importance to minimize the incidence of long-term problems associated with rearfoot fusion.

A review of eight patients who underwent nine tibiocalcaneal arthrodeses was performed. The surgical indications were failed previous surgery, posttraumatic talar avascular necrosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. The average age at the time of operation was 54 years. The average time of follow-up was 40 months after the operation.

Surgery for midfoot arthritis is challenging and technically demanding, especially in the presence of deformity.Thirty patients (30 feet) with symptomatic midfoot arthritis and deformities, underwent arthrodesis, along with adjuvant procedures to realign the hindfoot and forefoot where needed.Union was achieved in 28 out of 30 (93.3%) patients.

The procedure of radiolunate arthrodesis was suggested by spontaneous radiolunate arthrodesis that resulted in painless, satisfactory function. Ulnar translation down the inclined slope of the radius is accelerated by dorsal dislocation of the ulnar head, ulna minus variance, and triangular fibrocartilage resorption and may be an inducement to ...
