Neurogenic arthropathy and recurring fractures with subclinical inherited neuropathy

Neurology, 1983
Some patients with radiologic findings of neurogenic arthropathy or multiple fractures do not exhibit overt neurologic signs. Results of nerve conduction velocity, computer-assisted sensory examination, periosteal nociception, and morphometric and graded teased-fiber evaluation of cutaneous nerves allowed us to recognize a mild neuropathic abnormality.

NEUROGENIC ARTHROPATHY (CHARCOT JOINT) ASSOCIATED WITH DIABETIC NEUROPATHY

Archives of Neurology & Psychiatry, 1947
IT is a matter of general knowledge that tabes dorsalis or syringomyelia underlies most neuropathic joints; the mechanism by which these diseases predispose afflicted persons to the development of neurogenic arthropathy (Charcot joint) is still imperfectly understood. Disease processes which afflict areas of the nervous system other than those involved

Neurogenic arthropathy. Differential diagnosis.

La Chirurgia degli organi di movimento, 1993
Neurological affections responsible for secondary arthropathic pathology are: tabes, syringomyelia, diabetes mellitus, congenital insensitivity to pain syndrome, alcoholism, leprosy. Each of the affections shows predilection for specific joints: syringomyelia the shoulder, tabes the hip and knee, diabetes mellitus the foot, congenital insensitivity to ...

NEUROGENIC ARTHROPATHY ASSOCIATED WITH DIABETES MELLITUS

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1955
In the cases reported the only constant finding has been that diabetes mellitus has been present for a long period of time. Nerve damage, with involvement of the peripheral nerves, of the nerve roots, or of the posterior columns, has been the most consistent pathological finding. It is manifested by sensory, vibratory, and reflex changes.

Radiographic and therapeutic aspects of neurogenic arthropathy.

La Chirurgia degli organi di movimento, 1993
The authors describe the typical radiographic aspects of neurogenic arthropathy based on an examination of 127 cases observed at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute. Surgical indications for the various joints affected are discussed, and the results obtained after treatment are reported.

Unilateral hemochromatosis arthropathy on a neurogenic basis.

The Journal of rheumatology, 1998
We describe a 42-year-old man with right hemiplegia from cerebral palsy who presented with chronic left arm pain. Examination revealed 12 active joints, predominantly in the left hand. Radiographs showed characteristic changes of an advanced secondary osteoarthritic process in the left hand and only minimal changes on the right.

[Neurogenic osteo-arthropathies due to chronic alcoholism].

La Clinica ortopedica, 1977
Recognised forms of neurogenic osteo-arthropathy, their aetiology and pathogenesis are reviewed. Seven unusual cases are presented. Chronic alcoholism was a possible pathogenetic factors in these cases of neurogenic osteo-arthropathy from persistant drunkeness and not osteo-arthropathy occurring in alcoholics. Thus a new clinical entity is proposed.

Pathologic features of neurogenic arthropathy.

La Chirurgia degli organi di movimento, 1993
"Neurotraumatic" and "neurovascular" theories are still debated as a basis for the pathogenesis of neurogenic arthropathy. The observations of pathologic features described in the present study lead to the conclusion that both mechanisms, loss of deep sensation and neurovascular reflex inducing increased blood flow and active bone resorption, may ...

Bilateral neurogenic hip arthropathy. A case report.

Neuro endocrinology letters, 2010
Neurogenic arthropathy is a rare joint disorder, characterized by rapid progression and marked destruction of articular surfaces (known as Charcot's joint) with only mild to moderate pain. Most cases are related to diabetic neuropathy, but they may complicate the course of other neurogenic clinical conditions such as neurosyphilis (tabes dorsalis ...
