Failures in Patellar Replacement in Total Knee Arthroplasty [PDF]
Patellar failure after TKA is often multifactorial. A careful assessment of patient factors, implant design and surgical technique must be performed. If there are major problems with implant design or component positioning, revision of the entire arthroplasty may be necessary to correct the patellar failure and ensure a durable result.

Revision of isolated patellofemoral arthroplasty to total knee replacement
Current Orthopaedic Practice, 2009Background Patellofemoral arthroplasty is becoming an established treatment for isolated patellofemoral arthritis. Revision to total knee replacement occasionally is required. Lessons learned from patients requiring revision surgery and their subsequent post-revision outcomes are described. Method This study reviewed 49 patellofemoral arthroplasties

Replacement arthroplasty of the valgus knee [PDF]
Total knee arthroplasty (TKR) using a medial capsular approach gives worse results in arthritic knees with valgus deformity than in those in varus, usually because of swelling, poor wound healing and stiffness, instability, recurrent valgus deformity and poor patellar tracking.

Replacement of the patello-femoral joint with the total condylar knee arthroplasty
International Orthopaedics, 1984We have studied 241 total condylar knee arthroplasties with replacement of the articular surface of the patella in 206 patients. The average age was 65 years. The technique of replacement of the patellofemoral joint emphasises realignment of the quadriceps mechanism, minimal excision of the patella to preserve subchondral bone, preservation of soft ...

Revision Knee Arthroplasty With Patella Replacement Versus Bony Shell
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1998A study was undertaken to assess the clinical results of revision total knee arthroplasty in which an unresurfaced bony shell was left after removing a patellar component versus those in which a patellar component was implanted. Followup was obtained in 123 of 130 consecutive revision total knee replacements (94%) from three centers.

Geometric Knee Replacement Arthroplasty Indications for Operation and Preliminary Experience
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1973SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS Geometric total knee replacement arthroplasty is not recommended for general use until a longer follow-up is available. The early results of the operation are encouraging enough, however, to warrant further clinical trial. Failures of previous surgery have been salvaged successfully, and severe conditions of the knee joint have

Stemmed revision arthroplasty for aseptic loosening of total knee replacement
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1985Fifty-three failed knee replacements were revised using minimally constrained implants with smooth uncemented intramedullary stems and metal-backed tibial components. Polymethylmethacrylate was used only to replace lost bone near the surface of the implant.

Replacement of the Patellofemoral Joint with Total-Condylar Knee Arthroplasty
1985Routine replacement of the patellofemoral joint with total knee arthroplasty is controversial despite the fact that the incidence of anterior knee pain with disabling symptoms has been reported to be 50% [1–17]. The argument put forward for patellofemoral joint replacement is based on theoretical grounds. It is generally accepted that peak loads in the

Total Knee Arthroplasty Following Prior Unicompartmental Replacement
2005The majority of failed UKAs are revised to TKA. If appropriate indications are met, liner exchange or revision to another UKA are possible, but in general, these procedures have poor longevity and a higher failure rate. Revisions of failed UKA to TKA appear to have a slightly inferior outcome when compared to primary TKA but better outcome than ...
