Under the conditions evaluated, dehydrated municipal sewage sludge increased branches per plant and ground cover in Sapindus saponaria and increased cumulative arthropod observations and species richness in selected groups. Exploratory multivariate patterns did not demonstrate direct causal plant–arthropod relationships.

Cotesia glomerata polydnavirus and venom, either alone or in combination, affect colonisation by members of the arthropod community in a natural field setting. Plants damaged by P. brassicae injected with both polydnavirus and venom were colonised more often by Mamestra brassicae caterpillars, Myzus persicae aphids and aphid parasitoids compared to ...

Scale insect abundance peaked in the upper canopy of sugar maples. Parthenolecanium peaked on older internodes; Lepidosaphes on the current leader. Internodes longer than the previous carried more scales; wider ones fewer. Abstract Forest canopies are vertically stratified habitats in which microclimate and host tissue quality vary with height.

Understanding how genetic-based traits of plants interact with climate to affect associated communities will help improve predictions of climate change impacts on biodiversity. However, few community-level studies have addressed such interactions. Pinyon

Predator cues from jumping spiders modulate herbivore behaviour and reduce plant damage
Jumping spider cues increase immobility and delay first reproduction in the aphid Myzus persicae. Spider cues reduce leaf consumption by chewing herbivores, indicating reduced herbivore pressure on plants. Jumping spider cues may mediate indirect effects across trophic levels by altering herbivore behaviour and plant–herbivore interactions.

Artificial light at night decreases leaf herbivory in typical urban areas
Artificial light at night (ALAN) is exerting growing pressure on natural ecosystems, but its impact on biological interactions remains unclear. This study aimed to assess how ALAN influences leaf functional traits and herbivory in two prevalent street ...

Forest degradation increased termite‐mediated litter decomposition, whereas no such effect was detected in undisturbed forests. Reduced ant predation and altered forest conditions were associated with higher termite abundance and faster litter decomposition.

Induced Volatile Chemistry and Arthropod Predation Across a Tree Diversity Gradient
ABSTRACT Plant volatile organic compounds (VOCs) play a key role in defence against herbivores and in mediating multitrophic interactions. Yet, how surrounding plant diversity modulates these responses in forest trees remains poorly understood. We examined the effects of tree species richness on induced VOC emissions and arthropod predation in Quercus ...

Herbicide residues in soil disrupt plant–insect signalling, reducing the effectiveness of biological pest control. Abstract Plants under herbivore attack emit distinct blends of herbivore‐induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) which serve as signalling cues for predatory insects.
