RNA activation in insects: From emerging evidence to molecular applications

Canonical RNA activation involves small RNAs interacting with promoter sequences, but there is also evidence of non‐canonical RNAa in eukaryotes. Emerging evidence suggests the presence of RNAa in insects. RNAa can be utilised as a tool for functional genomic studies in insects.

High prevalence of a host‐associated Anaplasma lineage in wild coatis (Nasua nasua) from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

Anaplasma sp. DNA was detected in 47.9% of free‐ranging coatis (Nasua nasua) sampled in Iguaçu National Park, southern Brazil. Molecular analyses revealed a genetically distinct Anaplasma lineage infecting coatis, differing from Anaplasma strains detected in associated tick populations.

Arthropod vectors in the evolution of bunyaviruses.

Viruses from each genus of Bunyaviridae have preferential relationships to the arthropods of only one or two families, i.e. Bunyavirus to mosquitoes (Culicidae), Phlebovirus to sand flies (Psychodidae) and mosquitoes, Uukuvirus and Nairovirus to ticks (Ixodidae and Argasidae).
