Slugs can challenge crop plants grown in no‐till fields. Our results confirm that higher levels of slug feeding can be detrimental to maize plants, but low levels of herbivory by slugs can unexpectedly increase plant growth and occasionally yield. Abstract BACKGROUND In contrast to herbivorous insect pests, relatively little attention has been given to

A single marker revealed a considerable diversity of organisms associate with Dryas octopetala. The rhizosphere contains more taxa than the phyllosphere. Some taxa are cited for the first time in the Svalbard Archipelago. The use of different DNA marker will increase diversity data in the Svalbard Archipelago.

Increasing Global Expansion Speeds of Marine Invaders
ABSTRACT Aim Quantifying the speed of invasive species range expansion and the mechanisms behind it is a key management goal that also informs ecological theories of spread. Byers et al. found that time since first global introduction (TSI) was the strongest predictor of non‐native range size of coastal marine invertebrates relative to environmental ...

Evaluation of climate change scenarios based on aquatic food web modelling [PDF]
In the years 2004 and 2005 we collected samples of phytoplankton, zooplankton and macroinvertebrates in an artificial small pond in Budapest. We set up a simulation model predicting the abundance of the cyclopoids, Eudiaptomus zachariasi and Ischnura ...

ABSTRACT Trammel nets are used with extended soaking times to increase the catching efficiency for demersal fish in commercial fishing. Long soaking time causes deterioration or damage to species caught in the first days. Effects of soaking time were investigated with 36‐mm, 42‐mm, and 46‐mm mesh sizes soaked over 1, 3, 5, and 7 days on target, non ...
