Noisy Kondo impurities

open access: yes, 2009
The anti-ferromagnetic coupling of a magnetic impurity carrying a spin with the conduction electrons spins of a host metal is the basic mechanism responsible for the increase of the resistance of an alloy such as Cu${}_{0.998}$Fe${}_{0.002}$ at low ...

Field-trial of an all-optical PSK regenerator/multicaster in a 40 Gbit/s, 38 channel DWDM transmission experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The performance of future ultra-long haul communication systems exploiting phase-encoded signals is likely to be compromised by noise generated during signal transmission.

Efficacy of Intermittent Theta‐Burst Stimulation for Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness: A Prospective, Randomized, Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Emerging evidence suggests that low‐frequency neural oscillations are dynamically regulated by consciousness levels, with the recovery of low cortical activity potentially serving as a neurophysiological substrate for conscious emergence. Targeted enhancement of these low‐frequency rhythms in patients with disorders of consciousness

Fronthaul Quantization as Artificial Noise for Enhanced Secret Communication in C-RAN

open access: yes, 2017
This work considers the downlink of a cloud radio access network (C-RAN), in which a control unit (CU) encodes confidential messages, each of which is intended for a user equipment (UE) and is to be kept secret from all the other UEs.

Emergence of Artificial Photons in an Optical Lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We establish the theoretical feasibility of direct analog simulation of the compact U(1) lattice gauge theories in optical lattices with dipolar bosons.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Physical Layer Security for Massive MIMO Systems Impaired by Phase Noise

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we investigate the impact of phase noise on the secrecy performance of downlink massive MIMO systems in the presence of a passive multiple-antenna eavesdropper.

Induced internal noise in perceptual artificial scotomas created by surrounding dynamic noise

open access: yesVision Research, 2007
Research has shown that exposure to a homogeneous gray patch surrounded by a dynamic noise background causes filling-in of the artificial scotoma by the twinkling noise from the surround. When the background is switched off, observers report perception of a prolonged patch of twinkling noise in the unstimulated area.

Elinvar Materials: Recent Progress and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Elinvar materials, exhibiting temperature‐invariant elastic modulus, are critical for precision instruments and emerging technologies. This article reviews recent progress in the field, with a focus on the anomalous thermoelastic behavior observed in key material systems.
