Artificial Nutrition and Hydration

open access: yes, 2015
Decreased appetite or inability to tolerate or enjoy food and fluids is often a hallmark of the terminal phase of an illness. Discussions and decisions regarding initiating or withholding artificial nutrition and hydration at the end of life are guided by goals of care, evaluation of benefits and burden, ethical and cultural considerations, and the ...

Machine Learning-Based Approach towards Identification of Pharmaceutical Suspensions Exploiting Speckle Pattern Images

open access: yesSensors
Parenteral artificial nutrition (PAN) is a lifesaving medical treatment for many patients worldwide. Administration of the wrong PAN drug can lead to severe consequences on patients’ health, including death in the worst cases.

Parenteral Nutrition in Liver Resection

open access: yesJournal of Nutrition and Metabolism, 2012
Albeit a very large number of experiments have assessed the impact of various substrates on liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy, a limited number of clinical studies have evaluated artificial nutrition in liver resection patients.

Artificial Nutritional Support Registries: systematic review.

open access: yesNutricion hospitalaria, 2009
Introduction: The nutritional registries are data bases through which we obtain the information to understand the nutrition of populations. Several main nutrition societies of the world have these types of registries, outstanding the NADYA (Home artificial and Ambulatory nutrition) group in Spain.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Frailty Exacerbates Disability in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To evaluate frailty in severe progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS) and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. Methods This prospective, cross‐sectional, multicenter study enrolled a late severe PMS group requiring skilled nursing (n = 53) and an age, sex, and disease duration‐matched control PMS group (n = 53).

Withdrawing artificial nutrition and patients’ interests [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Ethics, 2012
I argue that the arguments brought by Counsel for M to the English Court of Protection are morally problematic in prioritising subjective interests that are the result of 'consistent autonomous thought' over subjective interests that are the result of a more limited cognitive perspective.

Mouse tissue glycome atlas 2022 highlights inter-organ variation in major N-glycan profiles

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
This study presents “mouse tissue glycome atlas” representing the profiles of major N-glycans of mouse glycoproteins that may define their essential functions in the surface glycocalyx of mouse organs/tissues and serum-derived extracellular vesicles ...

Deep Learning–Assisted Differentiation of Four Peripheral Neuropathies Using Corneal Confocal Microscopy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Peripheral neuropathies contribute to patient disability but may be diagnosed late or missed altogether due to late referral, limitation of current diagnostic methods and lack of specialized testing facilities. To address this clinical gap, we developed NeuropathAI, an interpretable deep learning–based multiclass classification ...
