In the past 40 years the coastal marine environment in the Western Ligurian Riviera has been affected by three major human activities: (1) Illegal fishing, especially otter-trawling, in the shallow (< 50 m) coastal zone where this type of gear is banned. The problem is often compounded by the use of undersize net mesh in the cod end of the trawls.

Artificial Reefs in the Adriatic Sea
2000Italian initiatives and experiments with artificial reefs, in particular in the Adriatic Sea, have been prompted by the requirement to effectively manage and enhance the coastal seas. The coastal zone is subject to inter- and intra-sector conflicts but has great potential for fishery and mariculture development.

Abstract In Korea, artificial reefs have been installed since the 1970s at many coastal areas for the enhancement of fisheries productivity. They are constructed and installed as government-subsidized projects. Reefs installed in Korea include eight designs—five are for fish and the other three are for shellfish or seaweeds. Concrete and steel are used

Location Analysis for Placing Artificial Reefs
2014Location analyses are among the most common tasks while working with spatial data and geographic information systems. Automating the most frequently used procedures is therefore an important aspect of improving their usability. In this context, this project aims to design and implement a workflow, providing some basic tools for a location analysis. For

Artificial Reefs in Fisheries Management
2011While artificial reefs may have much to offer, they remain an anecdote in the greater scheme of fisheries management, primarily due to the lack of data specific to validating their use. Based on papers presented at the 9th Conference on Artificial Reefs and Artificial Habitats (CARAH) and also including original articles written for this reference ...

Artificial reefs and mariculture
2001Artificial reefs are natural materials and man-made structures deployed on the seabed to mimic some characteristics of the natural reefs and to improve the aquatic environment. They are included in the more general definition of "artificial habitats", referred to each type of structure deliberately placed in the sea to enhance stocks and fisheries ...
