Using artificial neural networks to estimate snow water equivalent from snow depth

Canadian Water Resources Journal / Revue canadienne des ressources hydriques, 2020
Snow water equivalent (SWE) is among the most important variables in the hydrological modelling of high latitude and mountainous areas.

Artificial snowseed and method for making artificial snow

Journal of Fluorine Chemistry, 1998
An artificial snowseed in the form of granules of a super water-absorbing polymer already coated with a fluorine-containing material and/or a silicone oil. The granules can retain the original spherical form after absorption of water without sticking to each other.

What’s that stuff? Artificial snow

C&EN Global Enterprise, 2018
Winter snowfalls herald all manner of fun and games: snowball fights, skiing, tobogganing, snowboarding, and, every four years, couch potato-ing as people all over the world watch the Winter Olympics. But what’s a winter sports enthusiast to do if the coveted precipitation doesn’t make an appearance? That’s when artificial snow comes in. Over the years,

Laser Scanning of Natural and Artificial Snow Packs

MRS Proceedings, 1994
AbstractIn an effort to numerically describe a snow pack as a disordered aggregate of irregularlyshaped particles, a new optical analysis system was conceived. The system measures light transmission through snow samples impregnated with an opaque fluid. The analysis of the results is presented.

Chemistry of Small Organic Molecules on Snow Grains: The Applicability of Artificial Snow for Environmental Studies

Environmental Science & Technology, 2011
The utilization of artificial snow for environmentally relevant (photo)chemical studies was systematically investigated. Contaminated snow samples were prepared by various methods: by shock freezing of the aqueous solutions sprayed into liquid nitrogen or inside a large walk-in cold chamber at -35 °C, or by adsorption of gaseous contaminants on the ...

[Ocular injury by artificial snow spray].

Harefuah, 1991
We treated the eyes of 12 children, aged 2.5-16 years, which were injured by artificial snow-spray during Israel's Independence Day festivities in 1987 and 1989. There was chemical damage to the conjunctiva and cornea which took 1-3 weeks to heal.

Is Our Winter Experience Safe? Micropollutant Risks for Artificial Snowing

Science of The Total Environment
Artificial snowing is a process that allows ski operators adapt to snow scarcity due to climate change while raising environmental and public health concerns about the role it plays in environmental dissemination of pollutants, but studies addressing this question are still scarce.

Sublimation of snow intercepted by an artificial conifer

Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 1991
Abstract An experiment tested predictions of sublimation from snow intercepted on conifer crowns, using an artificial tree to avoid errors from desiccation and needle loss. The prediction model approximated vaporization from the crystal fragments most exposed on a snow surface by sublimation of uniform ice spheres.

Impact of artificial snow on the environment

1995
