Effect of Artificial Tear Solutions and Saline on Tear Film Evaporation

Optometry and Vision Science, 1990
The effect on tear evaporation of two artificial tear solutions is compared with that of an equal volume of saline instilled into the eye. Changes in tear evaporation rates (TER) were measured with a modified Servomed Evaporimeter in a cross-over study of nine subjects.

Stability of Cyclosporine 1% in Artificial Tears

Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1996
We wished to determine the stability of frozen, refrigerated, and room temperature topical cyclosporine 1% in artificial tears (Tears Plus). Cyclosporine 1% eye drops were made in artificial tears prior to the manufacturers recommendations of using a lipid soluble vehicle, such as olive oil.

Collagen-Based Drug Delivery and Artificial Tears

Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1994
For patients with conditions requiring chronic rather than acute therapy, the advantages of collagen shields in providing high and sustained levels of drugs and/or lubricants to the cornea are outweighed by the difficulty of insertion of the shield and the problem of blurred vision. We have developed a delivery system in which collagen pieces suspended

Effect of Artificial Tears on Visual Acuity

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 2005
To study the effect of commonly used preservative free artificial tear, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) 0.5% (Refresh Plus, Allergan, Irvine, California) on visual acuity in symptomatic dry eye (SDE) and asymptomatic dry eye (ADE) patients.Nonrandomized prospective clinical trial.Prospective study involving 20 patients (40 eyes) with SDE and 20 patients ...

Artificial tears, preservatives, so what?

Acta Ophthalmologica
Aims/Purpose: To investigate the cell survival of human conjunctival goblet cells (CGs) when incubated with preserved and preservative‐free (PF) artificial tears (AT) used against dry eye disease (DED). The following ATs were tested: 0.011% benzalkonium chloride (BAK)‐preserved Viskøse® Øjendråber, 0.006% BAK‐preserved Oftagel®, 0.005% BAK‐preserved ...

Dynamic Changes in the Lower Tear Meniscus After Instillation of Artificial Tears

Cornea, 2010
To compare the dynamic changes in lower tear meniscus area (TMA) and height after instillation of artificial tears in patients with dry eye and healthy controls.Twenty-two eyes of 11 patients with dry eye and twenty eyes of 10 age- and sex-matched healthy subjects were included.

What's artificial in artificial tears?

American journal of optometry and physiological optics, 1986
After reviewing tear film physiology, and tear film disorders, the author discusses the ingredients found in artificial tear solutions. Choosing the best artificial tear solution for each patient is often confusing because many solutions are available.

Ocular physiology and artificial tears.

Journal of the American Optometric Association, 1999
In this study, we evaluated the pH value of nine artificial tears solutions in order to investigate whether their pH changed over time. These solutions are designed to have a pH value within the ocular comfort range and to come close to the physiological tears' pH.Fifteen bottles of each solution were randomly chosen from different production lots ...

Developing the Optimal Artificial Tear

1997
Development of what has been called “the optimal artificial tear solution” was based on a two-pronged strategy. This strategy was first, to develop a profound understanding of the pathogenesis of dry-eye disease, and second, to develop a comprehensive understanding of why the eye needs a tear film.
