Seychelles Artisanal Fisheries Statistics for 2013.
During 2013, a total of 4150.4Mt of fish was landed on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue by approximately 417 fishing boats where 87.3% of the total catch was landed on Mahé. The total artisanal catch and the number of vessels increased by 1644Mt and 4 vessels (excluding sport fishing vessels) respectively compared to 2012 ...

Seychelles artisanal fisheries statistics for 1999
(1). During 1999 an estimated total of 4842 Metric Tonnes (MT) of fish was landed on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue by 345 fishing boats. 88.9% of the total catch was landed on Mahe alone. The catch volume has increased by 1508 MT compared to the 1998 catch and the number of boats operating decreased by 10 vessels over the same period. (2).

Abstract Total Suspended Solids (TSS) significantly degrade water quality by reducing light penetration and oxygen availability, while facilitating the transport of toxic contaminants. Managing TSS in watersheds requires an understanding of both hydrological connectivity and pollutant dynamics; however, these efforts are significantly constrained by ...

ABSTRACT Facilitative interspecific interactions (FIIs) confer benefits to at least one participant without detriment to others. Although often less emphasised than antagonistic interactions in ecological studies, this review highlights the significant ecological role of FIIs across biological scales – from individual behaviours to population ...

Abstract Urgency to save species from extinction has prompted increased investment in law enforcement in protected areas. To date, such law enforcement has largely focused on increasing costs and reducing opportunities for offending. However, these resource‐intensive approaches are not always effective and can contribute to conflict between people and ...

Abstract Spatial segregation in at‐sea distribution is frequently observed in seabirds and can have important implications for conservation and management. Globally, many albatross and petrel populations are declining due to bycatch in fisheries. In South Georgia, the decrease in wandering albatrosses (Diomedea exulans) differs among breeding sites ...

Evidence for a fisher‐designed solution to manta and devil ray bycatch in tuna fisheries
Abstract Bycatch in global tropical tuna purse seine fisheries represents a significant source of mortality for manta and devil rays (mobulids), which are globally threatened. Use of best handling and rapid release practices on purse seine vessels can substantially reduce mortality and improve vulnerability status for mobulids.

Mapping Mediterranean bentho‐demersal communities to better inform marine conservation
Marine protected areas are one of the most common conservation tools being implemented worldwide to reach conservation targets, but their implementation does not usually take the heterogeneous distribution of bentho‐demersal communities into account.
