Risks for human health related to the presence of plant lectins in food

Abstract The European Commission asked the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to assess the risk related to the presence of plant lectins in food. Based on the available evidence, the CONTAM Panel considered only phytohaemagglutinin (PHA), a legume lectin from beans (Phaseolus sp.), for the risk characterisation.

ABSTRACT In July 2021, desert rose plants were consistently observed with symptoms of brown spots on the leaves, which coalesced and promoted leaf fall. The causal agent of the disease was unknown. This study aimed to identify the pathogen responsible for the symptoms through morphological and molecular characterisation, as well as pathogenicity tests.

ABSTRACT Cultivation pits represented the principal form of horticultural features developed by past atoll communities in Central‐East Polynesia (CEP), and they are still utilised on some atolls in Oceania.
