The replacement of asbestos cement by grc

Composites, 1982
Abstract Health hazards associated with asbestos fibres have necessitated an alternative fibre for the reinforcement of cement. The use of glass fibres, in particular Cem-FIL 2 (which overcomes the commercial limitations of earlier glass fibres) in this role is reported.

Ceramic Fiber for Replacement of Asbestos as Filter Aid in Crude Fiber Determination: Collaborative Study

open access: yesJournal of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists, 1982
Abstract A commercially available ceramic fiber has been tested collaboratively for replacement of asbestos as a filter aid. Eleven laboratories participated, using 10 samples with crude fiber content from 1 to 40%, one sample high in starch, and 2 samples high in protein.

Failure prediction and optimal scheduling of replacements in asbestos cement water pipes

Journal of Water Supply: Research and Technology-Aqua, 2008
Asbestos cement (AC) pipes are among the oldest assets in many water supply networks. With increasing failure rates and cost consequences, asset management tools are required to pre-empt unplanned failures and schedule future replacement at the most cost-effective time during service.

Role of metal composite alloys in non-asbestos brake friction materials-A solution for copper replacement

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract Copper plays a vital role in the performance of brake friction materials due to its better thermal conductivity and fade resistance. But owing to the negative impact towards to the aquatic life, the usage of copper in brake material formulations is reduced considerably in developed nations.

Asbestos-Cement Pipe Condition Assessment and Development of Optimum Replacement Methodology

Forensic Engineering 2012, 2012
Research was undertaken to evaluate the current condition of asbestos-cement (AC) pipe and develop service life prediction model for the Alameda County Water District (ACWD) distribution system. Laboratory assessment of 47 pipe samples removed from the system revealed that, while pipe strengths were satisfactory, deterioration of AC pipe due to ...

Evaluation of natural fibers for the production of automotive brake pads replacement for asbestos brake pad

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2020
In brake pad application, natural fiber composites are used to reduce the toxic and harmful effects caused by the asbestos-based brake pads. Because it leads to respiratory problem and lung cancer. In this, natural fiber properties are used to boost the mechanical properties towards the replacement for asbestos brake pad.

Asbestos replacement aspects: Modification of the fibre‐matrix interphase in lonomer based composites

Polymer International, 1992
AbstractAsbestos fibres, of the chrysotile variety, and chopped carbon fibres were pretreated by an in‐situ polycondensation technique eventually resulting in a polyamide coating on the fibre surface. Ionomer based composites containing either carbon or asbestos fibres in random in plane fibre orientation were prepared, and the influence of this ...
