An algorithm to recognize echelon subgroups of a free group [PDF]
We provide an algorithm that, given a finite set of generators for a subgroup $H$ of a finitely generated free group $F$, determines whether $H$ is echelon or not and, in case of affirmative answer, also computes a basis with respect to which $H$ is in echelon form. This answers to a question of A. Rosenmann. We also prove, by means of a counterexample,

In this study, we assessed the genetic diversity of Ascaris lumbricoides / Ascaris suum circulating in humans and pigs, exploring potential zoonotic cycles in endemic areas in Brazil.

Soil-transmitted helminth infections [PDF]
More than a quarter of the world's population is at risk of infection with the soil-transmitted helminths Ascaris lumbricoides, hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus), Trichuris trichiura, and Strongyloides stercoralis. Infected children

BackgroundWe previously demonstrated that serology holds promise as an alternative diagnostic tool to copromicroscopy to monitor and evaluate deworming programs targeting soil-transmitted helminths (STHs).

Ascaris suum infections in pigs born and raised on contaminated paddocks [PDF]
The transmission of Ascaris suum was studied in outdoor reared pigs. From May to June, 2001 6 farrowing paddocks were naturally contaminated with A. suum using experimentally infected seeder pigs. Early July, 1 sow farrowed on each paddock.

Ascaris Larval Infection and Lung Invasion Directly Induce Severe Allergic Airway Disease in Mice
Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm) is the most common helminth infection globally and a cause of lifelong morbidity that may include allergic airway disease, an asthma phenotype.

Intestinal intussusception in an adult caused by helminthic parasitosis [PDF]
Intestinal intussusception is an uncommon acute condition in adults and is most commonly caused by an intestinal tumor mass. Helminthic parasitosis is a widespread infection in Africa, and the load of worms is often high in individuals living in areas ...

Modelling macroparasitic diseases dynamics [PDF]
In this work we present a general framework for the modeling of the transmission dynamics of macroparasites which do not reproduce within the host like Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Necator americanus y Ancylostoma duodenale. The basic models are derived from general probabilistic models for the parasite density-dependent mating ...

IgG Induced by Vaccination With Ascaris suum Extracts Is Protective Against Infection
Human ascariasis has a global and cosmopolitan distribution, and has been characterized as the most prevalent neglected tropical disease worldwide. The development of a preventive vaccine is highly desirable to complement current measures required for ...
