Antioxidative system in maize roots as affected by osmotic stress and different nitrogen sources

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2010
The activities of antioxidative enzymes and contents of proline and total phenolics were assayed in roots of two maize (Zea mays L.) genotypes grown in a medium containing nitrate (NO3 -) or both nitrogen forms, nitrate and ammonium (NH4 +/NO3 -).

Fennel outperforms ajwain and anise in saline environment: physiological response mechanisms in germinating seeds and mature plants

open access: yesItalian Journal of Agronomy, 2022
The potential of different medicinal species as alternative crops for saline conditions needs to be explored. Comparative physiological responses of germinating seeds and mature plants of three genotypes of anise (Pimpinella anisum L.), fennel ...

Effect of Light of Different Spectral Compositions on Pro/Antioxidant Status, Content of Some Pigments and Secondary Metabolites and Expression of Related Genes in Scots Pine

open access: yesPlants, 2023
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of light quality (white fluorescent light, WFL, containing UV components), red light (RL, 660 nm), blue light (BL, 450 nm), and white LED light (WL, 450 + 580 nm) on the components of the cellular ...

Hydrogen Peroxide Generation of Copper/Ascorbate Formulations on Cotton: Effect on Antibacterial and Fibroblast Activity for Wound Healing Application

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Greige cotton (unbleached cotton) is an intact plant fiber that retains much of the outer cotton fiber layers. These layers contain pectin, peroxidases, and trace metals that are associated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) generation during cotton fiber ...

Evaluation of genetic polymorphism and drought and salinity tolerance of Amaranthus cruentus L. mutants

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений. Поволжский регион: Естественные науки, 2023
Background. Drought and salinization are serious environmental problems in agriculture. Therefore, it is important to grow cultivated plants resistant to abiotic environmental factors in the fields.

Multigene families encode the major enzymes of antioxidant metabolism in Eucalyptus grandis L

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2005
Antioxidant metabolism protects cells from oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). In plants, several enzymes act jointly to maintain redox homeostasis.

Genome-wide, evolutionary, and functional analyses of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) family in Poaceae species

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2022
Ascorbate peroxidases (APXs) are heme peroxidases involved in the control of hydrogen peroxide levels and signal transduction pathways related to development and stress responses.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Activity of Cytosolic Ascorbate Peroxidase (APX) from Panicum virgatum against Ascorbate and Phenylpropanoids

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2023
APX is a key antioxidant enzyme in higher plants, scavenging H2O2 with ascorbate in several cellular compartments. Here, we report the crystal structures of cytosolic ascorbate peroxidase from switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L., Pvi), a strategic feedstock plant with several end uses. The overall structure of PviAPX was similar to the structures of other
