Predation and the Evolution of Precopula in the Isopod Asellus Aquaticus

Behaviour, 1985
Abstract1. The predatory behaviour of the smooth newt (Triturus vulgaris) on the isopod Asellus aquaticus was studied and the typical predatory sequence described. 2. Male Asellus in precopula experience a reduced risk of predation relative to single males. They seem to show an antipredator behaviour which 'confuses' the newt. 3. Precopula was probably

Heat shock response and thermal acclimation in Asellus aquaticus

Journal of Thermal Biology, 1996
Abstract 1. 1. Three methods were used to assess the heat tolerance of adult Asellus aquaticus : critical thermal maximum (CTMax, loss of the righting reflex), temperature for the loss of pleopod movements (LTMax), and the time at 33°C for the loss of pleopod activity (LT). All these measures are affected by heat shock and by thermal acclimation.

A mannose phosphate isomerase polymorphism in the Isopod Asellus aquaticus

Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 1986
Abstract A mannose phosphate isomerase locus in Asellus aquaticus is highly polymorphic in two populations examined in Britain. Breeding studies indicate four classes of electrophoretic alleles based on mobility differences, a further null allele, and probable genetically determined variation in enzyme activity between individuals with the same ...

24. On Relative Growth in Asellus aquaticus

Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 1937
Summary. In the relative growth of various width dimensions and total length in Asellus aquaticus the mean course of the later stages of growth shows simple allometry. In detail, however, the growth‐curves show a regular rhythmicity which is essentially similar in all segments.

Heritability for Body Size in the Isopod Asellus Aquaticus (L.)

Crustaceana, 1986

Assortative Mating for Size in Asellus Aquaticus (L.) (Isopoda)

Crustaceana, 1982
analysis of two hundred and one mating pairs of A. aquaticus collected in late February and early March of 1976 from a single population in Nottingham shire. Males and females were measured to the nearest millimeter, from the tip of the head to the tip of the abdomen, and the progeny of forty-Five selected pairs counted to the nearest five immediately ...

Asellus aquaticus (crustacea:isopoda) ovaryumunun ince yapısı

2020
SUMMARY infrastructure of the Ovary of Asellus aquaticus (Crustacea: Isopoda) In this study, the overall structure of the ovary of A.aquaticus was studied at stereomicroscope, while ovarian wall, oviduct, oocytes and follicle cells were studied at phase microscope, light microscope and electron microscope.
