Long-term Performance of Asian Pear Trees in Maryland

open access: yesHortScience, 1998
Three Asian pear plantings were set during the past decade. Plantings included an initial cultivar planting on OH × F rootstock, the SE Zonal planting, and a rootstock by cultivar factorial. Fireblight susceptibility and survival were assessed in the first two plantings following a summer hailstorm.

Elimination of FRDL1, a xylem‐located citrate transporter, confers tolerance to excess unchelated ferrous iron through an exclusion mechanism in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Knock‐down of a xylem‐localized citrate transporter, FRDL1, reduces foliar iron concentrations and leaf symptoms under excess ferrous iron stress in rice. Abstract Iron (Fe) toxicity is a common agricultural problem that limits rice yield in various regions of Southeast Asia and Africa.

Specific and Sensitive Detection of Venturia nashicola, the Scab Fungus of Asian Pears, by Nested PCR

open access: yesThe Plant Pathology Journal, 2013
The fungus Venturia nashicola is the causal agent of scab on Asian pears. For the rapid and reliable identification as well as sensitive detection of V. nashicola, a PCR-based technique was developed. DNA fingerprints of three closely related species, V.

A New Self-Compatible Asian Pear: 'Sweet Cost'

open access: yesJournal of the American Pomological Society, 2014
'Sweet Cost', a new self-compatible Asian pear cultivar carrying the S 4 sm(SM, stylar-part mutant) allele, was developed from a cross between 'Wonwhang' (S 3S 5), the main early-maturing pear cultivar with high fruit quality in Korea and the self-incompatible '92-18-31' (S 4 smS 4 sm) obtained from self-crossing of 'Osa-Nijisseiki' (S 2S 4 sm), a self-

Occurrence of Anthracnose on Fruits of Asian Pear Tree Caused byColletotrichum acutatum [PDF]

open access: yesMycobiology, 2007
Anthracnose symptoms often occurred on fruits of Asian pear trees grown in Anseong, Naju, Seonghwan and Pyeongtaek in Korea during the harvesting period from 2000 to 2005. A total of 28 isolates of Colletotrichum sp. were obtained from the anthracnose symptoms. All the isolates were identified as Colletotrichum acutatum based on their morphological and

The use of the nonlinear models in the growth of pears of ‘Shinseiki’ cultivar

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2017
: The goal of this study was to elucidate the growth and development of the Asian pear fruit, on the grounds of length, diameter and fresh weight determined over time, using the non-linear Gompertz and Logistic models.

The Impact of an Integrated steM Camp on Middle School Students' Enjoyment, Career Knowledge, and Career Interest

open access: yesSchool Science and Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Much of the work in STEM camps tends to be science‐driven with little attention given to mathematics. Guided by a mixed methods embedded research design using data from observations, questionnaires, and a group interview, we investigate if a camp that explicitly integrates mathematics had a positive impact on middle school students' STEM ...

Distribution of stone cell in Asian, Chinese, and European pear fruit and its morphological changes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Botany and Food Quality, 2013
This study was conducted to microscopically verify the distribution and morphological changes occurring in stone cells during fruit growth in order to determine physiological changes occurring in stone cells in pear fruits. European pear (P.
