Magnetically Agitated Nanoparticle-Based Batch Reactors for Biocatalysis with Immobilized Aspartate Ammonia-Lyase [PDF]

open access: yesCatalysts, 2021
In this study, we investigated the influence of different modes of magnetic mixing on effective enzyme activity of aspartate ammonia-lyase from Pseudomonas fluorescens immobilized onto epoxy-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles by covalent binding (AAL-MNP).

Biocatalytic Enantioselective Synthesis of N‐Substituted Aspartic Acids by Aspartate Ammonia Lyase [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, 2008
AbstractThe gene encoding aspartate ammonia lyase (aspB) from Bacillus sp. YM55‐1 has been cloned and overexpressed, and the recombinant enzyme containing a C‐terminal His6 tag has been purified to homogeneity and subjected to kinetic characterization. Kinetic studies have shown that the His6 tag does not affect AspB activity.

The VarA-CsrA regulatory pathway influences cell shape in Vibrio cholerae.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2022
Despite extensive studies on the curve-shaped bacterium Vibrio cholerae, the causative agent of the diarrheal disease cholera, its virulence-associated regulatory two-component signal transduction system VarS/VarA is not well understood.

Biochemical, kinetic, and spectroscopic characterization of Ruegeria pomeroyi DddW - A mononuclear iron-dependent DMSP lyase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The osmolyte dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a key nutrient in marine environments and its catabolism by bacteria through enzymes known as DMSP lyases generates dimethylsulfide (DMS), a gas of importance in climate regulation, the sulfur cycle, and ...

CodY, a pleiotropic regulator, influences multicellular behaviour and efficient production of virulence factors in Bacillus cereus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In response to nutrient limitation in the environment, the global transcriptional regulator CodY modulates various pathways in low G+C Gram-positive bacteria.

Genomic and experimental evidence for multiple metabolic functions in the RidA/YjgF/YER057c/UK114 (Rid) protein family. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundIt is now recognized that enzymatic or chemical side-reactions can convert normal metabolites to useless or toxic ones and that a suite of enzymes exists to mitigate such metabolite damage.

Integrating Metabolomics and Gene Expression Underlying Potential Biomarkers Compounds Associated with Antioxidant Activity in Southern Grape Seeds

open access: yesMetabolites, 2023
Different southern grape (Muscadine) genotypes (Muscadinia rotundifolia Michx.) were evaluated for their contents of metabolites in ripe berries. The metabolome study identified 331 metabolites in ripening skin and seed tissues. The major chemical groups

Corticosteroid suppresses urea-cycle-related gene expressions in ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency

open access: yesBMC Gastroenterology, 2022
Background Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency (OTCD) is most common among urea cycle disorders (UCDs), defined by defects in enzymes associated with ureagenesis.

The genome of Pelobacter carbinolicus reveals surprising metabolic capabilities and physiological features [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background The bacterium Pelobacter carbinolicus is able to grow by fermentation, syntrophic hydrogen/formate transfer, or electron transfer to sulfur from short-chain alcohols, hydrogen or formate; it does not oxidize acetate and is not known to ferment
