Spiral Defect Chaos in Large Aspect Ratio Rayleigh-Benard Convection

open access: yes, 1993
We report experiments on convection patterns in a cylindrical cell with a large aspect ratio. The fluid had a Prandtl number of approximately 1. We observed a chaotic pattern consisting of many rotating spirals and other defects in the parameter range ...

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Relaxation models for Single Helical reversed field pinch plasmas at low aspect ratio

open access: yes, 2018
A recent study [1] about the scaling with the aspect ratio (i.e. the ratio between the major and minor radius of the torus) of the dominant mode in Single Helical (SH) Reverse Field Pinch (RFP) plasmas has shown, at intermediate aspect ratio, that the ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Formation of High Aspect Ratio Microcoil Using Dipping Method

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2008
Coils are used in many electronic devices as inductors in mobile units such as mobile phone, digital cameras, etc. Inductance and quality factor of coils are very important value of the performance.

Employment at Will: The American Rule and Its Application in Alaska [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
In this thesis, secondary flow in a two stage, low aspect ratio turbine is investigated using CFD. A parameter study is carried out to investigate how the turbine performance is affected by the choice of aspect ratio.

Aspect ratio dependence of heat transfer and large-scale flow in turbulent convection

open access: yes, 2010
The heat transport and corresponding changes in the large-scale circulation (LSC) in turbulent Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard convection are studied by means of three-dimensional direct numerical simulations as a function of the aspect ratio $\Gamma$ of a closed ...

Multi‐omics and low‐input proteomics profiling reveals dynamic regulation driving pluripotency initiation in early mouse embryos

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mouse pre‐implantation development involves a transition from totipotency to pluripotency. Integrating transcriptomics, epigenetic profiling, low‐input proteomics and functional assays, we show that eight‐cell embryos retain residual totipotency features, whereas cytoskeletal remodeling regulated by the ubiquitin‐proteasome system drives progression ...

Thermosolutal convection in high-aspect-ratio enclosures [PDF]

open access: yes
Convection in high-aspect-ratio rectangular enclosures with combined horizontal temperature and concentration gradients is studied experimentally. An electrochemical system is employed to impose the concentration gradients.

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...
