Lichen and Its Microbiome as an Untapped Source of Anti‐Biofilm Compounds

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
Lichens and their associated fungi give rise to the evaluation of several extracts and compounds against biofilms. ABSTRACT Lichen substances have been first described in the 1870s, and around 10 000 compounds have been isolated and characterized. Most of them have been evaluated for their activity on planktonic microorganisms (bacteria and fungi ...

Screening of Fungi for the Application of Self-Healing Concrete [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Concrete is susceptible to cracking owing to drying shrinkage, freeze-thaw cycles, delayed ettringite formation, reinforcement corrosion, creep and fatigue, etc. Since maintenance and inspection of concrete infrastructure require onerous labor and high costs, self-healing of harmful cracks without human interference or intervention could be of great ...

Structural, Spectroscopic, and Docking Analysis of N,O‐Donor Ligand Metal Complex Nanoparticles With Hypolipidemic Effects via Lipoprotein Lipase Activation in High‐Fat Diet Mice

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
Hypolipidemic influence of CETZ.2HCl‐(H1‐antihistamine) metal‐complexes on “C57Bl/6‐mice” fed high‐fat‐diet. ABSTRACT New Cd(II), Zn(II), and Cu(II) chelates with cetirizine.2HCl (CETZ.2HCl) in incidence of 1,10 phenanthroline monohydrate (Phen.H2O) were synthesized in search of new biologically active compounds.

Beyond Phenolics: Alternative Substrates for Type III Copper Enzymes

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
The copper‐containing metalloenzyme tyrosinase is well known for synthesis of melanin pigments and enzymatic browning of fruits and vegetables. These reactions proceed from phenolics, but tyrosinases can also convert aromatic amines. This perspective brings together the scarce data on the enzymatic conversion of non‐phenolic substrates by these ...

Enrichment of hepatic glycogen and plasma glucose from H₂18O informs gluconeogenic and indirect pathway fluxes in naturally feeding mice

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 36, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
18O‐enrichment of liver glycogen, triglyceride glycerol, and blood glucose of mice given 18O‐water during overnight feeding was quantified by 13C NMR and MS. Glycogen 18O‐enrichment of oxygens 3, 5, and 6 from isotope‐shifted 13C signals informed indirect pathway contributions from different sources.
