Inverse Vulcanized Sulfur Polymer Composites From Poultry‐Industry Products and Lignocellulosic Biomass Waste

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 39, October 15, 2026.
This work explores the use of various fillers, including eggshell powder, feather meal, peanut hulls, and sawdust to reinforce a base binder GFS90 (comprised of 90 wt.% sulfur, 5 wt.% chicken fat, and 5 wt.% sunflower oil). The resulting composites showed impressive compressive strengths ranging from 15.3 to 36.2 MPa, making them a potential ...

Warm Mix Asphalt

open access: yes
Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) technologies have potential to reduce the application temperature of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and improve workability without compromising the performance of asphalt pavement. This promises various benefits, e.g.

Determining asphalt content for recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) materials. [PDF]

open access: yes
304-221The State of Oregon uses significant amounts of Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in dense-graded mixes on Statehighways. The design process for these mixes relies on accurately knowing the amount of asphalt cement in the RAPmaterials being used ...

Optimization of Production Process Parameters and Anti‐Cracking Mechanism of Plant‐Mixed Hot Recycling Asphalt Mixture Through SCB‐DIC Testing

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
Mixed‐level orthogonal experiments and SCB‐DIC testing were conducted to evaluate the effects of six production parameters on the anti‐cracking performance of plant‐mixed hot recycled asphalt mixtures. Cracking evolution was characterized using FI, CIE, and ECR.

Machine Learning‐Based Analysis and Prediction of the Influence of Meso‐Void Characteristics on Sound Absorption Coefficient of Porous Asphalt Concrete

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
This study integrates meso‐void characterization, statistical analysis, and machine learning to predict the sound absorption of porous asphalt concrete. Void‐ratio‐related features dominate prediction, while Extra Trees performs best among five evaluated models, supporting acoustic‐oriented PAC mixture design.

Predicting Pavement Condition Index for Cold‐Region Highways Using an ENET‐XGBoost Coupled Model

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
An ENET–XGBoost framework combines regularized feature selection and nonlinear residual correction for cold‐region pavement prediction. Traffic loading dominates deterioration; the model achieved R2 = 0.969 in back‐calculation, while Markov and scenario analyses indicate a 25% risk of Fair‐or‐below condition in 2026 and PCI of 74.2–77.5 by 2028 ...

Multi‐Model Machine Learning Framework for Predicting Drainage Performance of Porous Asphalt Mixtures

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
A multi‐model machine learning framework predicts four drainage indicators of porous asphalt mixtures from 11 macro‐void and meso‐pore descriptors. The stacking ensemble achieves R2 > 0.999, identifying connected void ratio, total void ratio, and volumetric mean pore diameter as dominant design variables. ABSTRACT Porous asphalt mixtures (PAM), such as

Attention‐Enhanced SegFormer for Pixel‐Level Concrete Crack Detection Under Complex Crack Conditions

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
AF‐SegFormer integrates a CBAM‐based channel–spatial attention mechanism into the SegFormer decoder for pixel‐level concrete crack detection. The model enhances crack‐related feature fusion and improves the detection of denser crack regions while maintaining relatively low computational cost compared with the CNN‐based comparative models.
