Observational Characteristics and Meteorological Drivers of Inferior Mirages in Kumtag Desert, China

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Inferior mirages occur on 98.9% of days each year in the Kumtag Desert, Xinjiang, China. Using real‐time camera monitoring mirage images and local meteorological data, we classified inferior mirages into three intensity grades and analyzed their observational characteristics and meteorological drivers.

Indirect Tensile Test for the Determination of the Stiffness and the Resilient Modulus of Asphalt Concretes: Experimental Analysis of the EN 12697 -26 and the ASTM D 4123 Standards

open access: yes, 2010
The results are presented of a laboratory study on the Stiffness and the Resilient Modulus of bituminous mixes determined by the Indirect Tensile Test, conducted according to the EN 12697-26, Annex C and the ASTM D 4123 standards.

Evidence for Reductions in Fungal Richness and Beta Diversity Dispersion Associated With Impervious Surfaces in California

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
Using public fungal occurrence data archived on the Global Biodiversity information facility, and impervious land cover maps from the National Land Cover Database, we were able to demonstrate that impervious cover has a significant influence on the diversity on fungal assemblages. These effects include a reduction in saprotrophic fungal richness, and a

Evaluation of Troxler 3241-C nuclear asphalt content gauge used for Marshall specimens

open access: yes, 2009
Asphalt cement content is one of the most important requirements for producing high quality hot-mix asphalt. The determination of the asphalt cement content of hot-mix asphalt by traditional methods is time consuming and hazardous.

Mosquito population dynamics are shaped by interactions among larval density, temperature, and relative humidity

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Understanding how variation in key abiotic and biotic factors interact at ecologically relevant spatial scales is crucial for predicting population dynamics, distributions, and abundances. This is especially true for vectors that transmit human pathogens.

Experimental, Numerical, and Analytical Model of the Meso‐Mechanical Behavior of Linear Low‐Density Polyethylene Plastic and Sand Composite

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 10, October 2026.
High‐volume sand reinforcement (up to 62%) dramatically enhances the compressive stiffness of waste LLDPE composites, increasing elastic modulus from 217 to 1683 MPa. A validated 3D RVE mesoscale model (R2 = 0.99) and modified analytical formulation accurately predict elastic behavior at high filler contents where classical models fail.

Recent developments in asphalt techniques for hydraulic applications in the Netherlands

open access: yes, 1965
Since 1945 and particularly after the flood in 1953 new means were developed to accelerate the construction of hydraulic engineering projects in the Netherlands. This development was initially related to paving sand dikes with durable materials.

Protective Effects of Chia Seeds and Vitamin E Against Benzo[a]Pyrene‐Induced Toxicity in Male Mice: A Comparison of co‐Administration and Pre‐Treatment Strategies

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon found in tobacco smoke and grilled foods, induces DNA damage, oxidative stress, liver toxicity, and lipid metabolism disturbances. This study investigated the protective effects of chia seeds (10%, 20%, and 30% in the diet) and vitamin E (250 mg/kg) against BaP‐induced toxicity (20 mg/kg) in male ...

Musculoskeletal (Mal)adaptations in Response to a > 30 000‐km Running Challenge

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Ultra‐endurance sports are increasingly popular, yet the long‐term physiological consequences of sustained extreme training loads remain poorly understood. In particular, the effects of prolonged ultra‐endurance exercise on skeletal muscle structure, function and molecular remodelling are largely unknown.
