Non-Aqueous and Crude Oil Foams. [PDF]
International audienceFoams produced from non-aqueous media are less common than water-based foams but they play an important role in many industries and engineering processes. The low surface tension of hydrocarbon fluids limits the adsorption of common

Waxes in asphaltenes of crude oils and wax deposits
Composition and molecular mass distribution of n-alkanes in asphaltenes of crude oils of different ages and in wax deposits formed in the borehole equipment were studied. In asphaltenes, n-alkanes from C12 to C60 were detected.

Probing the surface of synthetic opals with the vanadyl-containing crude oil by using EPR and ENDOR techniques [PDF]
Porous silica materials offer wide range of possibilities for enhancement of the productivity of oil reservoirs. However the mechanism of adsorption of polar components of crude oil on silica surface is poorly understood that hinders technological improvement of supports and oil extraction.

Microfluidic device coupled with total internal reflection microscopy for in situ observation of precipitation [PDF]
In situ observation of precipitation or phase separation induced by solvent addition is important in studying its dynamics. Combined with optical and fluorescence microscopy, microfluidic devices have been leveraged in studying the phase separation in various materials including biominerals, nanoparticles, and inorganic crystals.

Visbreaking of an asphaltenic coal residue
A residue from deasphalting of liquids obtained by direct liquefaction of a Spanish subbituminous coal was processed by thermal treatment. This residue is rich in asphaltenes which do not undergo cracking easily and are coke precursors in thermal cracking.
