P(AM‐EHMA‐VBS‐VP), a novel polymeric demulsifier, adsorbs at the interface, reduces interfacial modulus, overcomes asphaltene‐inhibited coalescence, and promotes droplet coalescence for effective demulsification. This study presents the synthesis and characterization of a novel polymeric demulsifier, P(AM‐EHMA‐VBS‐VP), through emulsion polymerization ...

Deposition of colloidal asphaltene in capillary flow: Experiments and mesoscopic simulations [PDF]
The aggregation and deposition of colloidal asphaltene in reservoir rock is a significant problem in the oil industry. To obtain a fundamental understanding of this phenomenon, we have studied the deposition and aggregation of colloidal asphaltene in ...

Coarse‐grained molecular dynamics reveals rejuvenation behavior in aged asphalt
Abstract To address the issue of insufficient spatiotemporal scales in all‐atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, this study employs coarse‐grained MD (CGMD) based on the MARTINI 3.0 force field to simulate the rejuvenation behavior of asphalt. Based on all‐atom molecular structure coarse‐grained mapping, molecular models of both virgin and aged ...

Chemical characterization of liquefaction products of an inertinite enriched northern Alaska coals [PDF]
A Northern Alaskan coal rich in inertinites was further enriched by density gradient separations. The degree of condensation of the enriched coal was estimated to be low, mainly 3 ring.

Separation and characterization of asphaltenic subfractions [PDF]
The structure of the various asphaltenic subfractions found in crude oil was evaluated. For this purpose, C5 asphaltenes were extracted from an asphaltic residue using n-pentane as the flocculant solvent. The different subfractions were isolated from the C5 asphaltenes by the difference in solubility in different solvents.

Aggregation of model asphaltenes – a molecular dynamics study [PDF]
Natural asphaltenes are defined as polyaromatic compounds whose chemical composition and structure is dependent on its geological origin and production history, hence are regarded as complex molecules with aromatic cores and aliphatic tails that occur in

Fines deposition during hydrotreating: Effects of catalyst size and bed arrangement
Abstract Fines deposition presents a significant problem during the hydrotreating of bitumen‐derived gas oils. The accumulation of fines leads to reactor clogging and consequently, pressure drop buildup. At critical levels, the hydrotreating reactor must be prematurely shutdown, resulting in substantial economic losses for refineries.
