The Relationship Between Heart Rate and Left Ventricular Isovolumic Relaxation During Normoxia and Hypoxia-Asphyxia in Newborn Piglets

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Background: Many asphyxiated neonates have cardiac complications including arrhythmia and contractile dysfunction. Little is known about the relationship between heart rate (HR) and diastolic function in asphyxiated neonates.

The association of umbilical cord blood neurofilament light with non‐reassuring fetal status: A prospective observational study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Early detection of hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in neonates is critical. We conducted a pilot cohort study to determine the feasibility of collecting umbilical cord blood samples for neurofilament light (NfL) and to assess the association of NfL with non‐reassuring fetal status and other cord biomarkers. We aimed to address (

Determinants of birth asphyxia among live birth newborns in University of Gondar referral hospital, northwest Ethiopia: A case-control study

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Background Birth asphyxia, which accounts for 31.6% of all neonatal deaths, is one of the leading causes of such mortality in Ethiopia. Early recognition and management of its contributing factors would modify the problem.

Short and long term prognosis in perinatal asphyxia: An update.

open access: yesWorld Journal of Clinical Pediatrics, 2016
Interruption of blood flow and gas exchange to the fetus in the perinatal period, known as perinatal asphyxia, can, if significant, trigger a cascade of neuronal injury, leading on to neonatal encephalopathy (NE) and resultant long-term damage. While the

Adverse perinatal outcomes associated with macrosomia in nulliparous women: A multicenter cohort study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Our study aimed to evaluate the combined risk of macrosomia and nulliparity. We investigated whether macrosomia is independently associated with an increased rate of intrapartum cesarean delivery (CD) and adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes among nulliparous women delivering at term.
