Non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs, polygenic risk score and colorectal cancer risk

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 54, Issue 2, Page 167-175, July 2021., 2021
The regular use of NSAIDs is associated with greatly reduced colorectal cancer (CRC) risk regardless of polygenic risk for CRC. The estimated large genetic risk equivalent indicates that a substantial proportion of genetic risk could be compensated for with regular use of NSAIDs.

Evaluation of the chemopreventive potentials of ezetimibe and aspirin in a novel mouse model of gallbladder preneoplasia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 14, Issue 11, Page 2834-2852, November 2020., 2020
A novel mouse model of gallbladder preneoplasia secondary to diet‐induced stones progresses in parallel with intense inflammation. Ezetimibe inhibits stone formation, inflammation, and metaplasia–dysplasia development. Aspirin does not reduce stone formation, however, ameliorates inflammation and preneoplasia onset (but only in a low‐cholesterol diet).

Entry and price competition in the over‐the‐counter drug market after deregulation: Evidence from Portugal

open access: yesHealth Economics, Volume 29, Issue 8, Page 865-877, August 2020., 2020
Abstract In the last two decades, many European countries allowed the sale of over‐the‐counter (OTC) drugs outside pharmacies. This was expected to lower retail prices through increased competition. Evidence of such price reductions is scarce. We assess the impact of supermarket and outlet entry in the OTC drug market on OTC prices charged by incumbent

Adjuvant statin therapy for oesophageal adenocarcinoma: the STAT‐ROC feasibility study

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 59-70, February 2020., 2020
After oesophagectomy for oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC), the 5‐year survival rate is currently only 30 per cent. There is strong observational evidence that statin use is associated with reduced all‐cause and cancer‐specific mortality in patients with OAC.

Could the Novel Oral Anticoagulants Be Used for Coronary Artery Aneurysm?

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs) are uncommon in coronary angiography, and left main coronary artery aneurysms are rare. There is no consensus for the treatment of CAAs. A young patient with left coronary artery aneurysm diagnosed by coronary angiography and with recurrent acute myocardial infarction was treated with rivaroxaban and aspirin.
