Imprinting and assisted reproductive technology [PDF]
In the past 25 years, the frequency of assisted reproductive technology (ART) births has increased rapidly to account for 1-2% of all births in many developed countries. ART procedures such as in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection are generally considered to be safe, but recent studies suggest a small excess of birth defects and ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Assisted reproductive technologies and human rights [PDF]
[Extract] Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) have challenged our thinking around what it means to be human. Associated with this is the dignity and humanity in a decision to become a parent, and how our genetic material is to be used.

Effects of Intrauterine Human Chorionic Gonadotropin on Endometrial Receptivity in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Cycle [PDF]
Background: Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is one of the chief embryonic signals in primates. It modifies the uterine environment, encourages uterine receptivity, and plays a key role in embryo implantation. Objectives: To determine the impact of ...

The history of assisted reproductive technologies: from prohibition to recognition
The birth of children after infertility treatment of married couples with the help of assisted reproductive technologies has become a reality after many years of basic research on the physiology of reproductive system, development of oocyte’s in vitro ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Oocyte aging in comparison to stem cells in mice
To maintain homeostasis, many tissues contain stem cells that can self-renew and differentiate. Based on these functions, stem cells can reconstitute the tissue even after injury.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Below population replacement fertility rates: Can assisted reproductive technology (ART) help reverse the trend? [PDF]
Objective: This paper considers the potential contribution that assisted reproductive technology (ART) may make to population replenishment in countries that have experienced extended periods of below-population-replacement Total Fertility Rates (TFR ...
