Safety issues in assisted reproduction technology: The children of assisted reproduction confront the responsible conduct of assisted reproductive technologies [PDF]
Neurological sequelae and multiple birth defects have been observed in children conceived by IVF and ICSI. Multiple pregnancy is the most important risk factor. These health problems challenge the responsible practice of medicine. The core values of medicine and the deontology of the profession have been reviewed to define the responsible conduct of ...

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Assisted reproductive technological blunders (ARTBs) [PDF]
When things go wrong with assisted reproduction we should look at what’s best for everyone in the particular circumstances A RTBs, as we must now call them, are becoming more and more frequent. In the recent United Kingdom case (discussed in April JME 1–3) Mr and Mrs A, a “white” couple, gave birth to twins described as “black”.

Elevated Seminal Plasma TLR-2 Levels are Associated with Leukocytospermia
Introduction: Leukocytospermia is associated with male infertility, but its underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This study aimed to investigate the association between seminal plasma toll-like receptor 2 (TLR-2) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2 ...
