Račja kuga, zagađenje, nekontrolirani izlov, promjena staništa i unos kompetitivnih alohtonih vrsta uzrokovali su prorijeđenje ili nestanak autohtonih vrsta rakova porodice Astacidaea iz mnogih europskih i naših voda pa su to danas vrlo ugrožene vrste. U Hrvatskoj su zaštićene Zakonom o zaštiti prirode, ali nažalost ne i dovoljno istražene.
