Morphological Observation of Museum Specimens of Astacus astacus and Pontastacus leptodactylus
Freshwater Crayfish, 2022Abstract Both external and internal morphological characteristics (the gastric mill and the gill on maxillipeds) of museum specimens of European Astacidae, namely Astacus astacus and Pontastacus leptodactylus, were observed and detailed illustrations and descriptions are herein provided.

Ontogeny of Osmoregulation in the CrayfishAstacus leptodactylus
Physiological and Biochemical Zoology, 2000Osmoregulation was studied during the postembryonic development of Astacus leptodactylus Eschscholtz 1823 in juvenile stages 1-8 and in adults. Juveniles hatch and later stages develop in freshwater or in moderately saline waters. The time of acclimation from freshwater to a saline medium increased from early juveniles to adults.

Crustaceana, 2011
AbstractThis study reports on the chromosome number and karyological characteristics of the endangered species of European crayfish, Astacus astacus and A. leptodactylus (Decapoda, Astacidae), both native to Croatian freshwater habitats. The karyotype of A. astacus and A. leptodactylus consists of 2n = 176 and 2n = 180 chromosomes, respectively.

Physiological Response of the Crayfish, Astacus Leptodactylus to Saline Water
Crustaceana, 2004Crayfish can spend their whole life, including reproduction and development, in fresh water. It is considered that many advanced features, like direct development and maternal brood care, can be interpreted as adaptations to life in fresh water (Scholtz, 1995).

The ultrastructure of the sinus gland of the crayfish Astacus leptodactylus (Nordmann)
Cell and Tissue Research, 1977An ultrastructural study of the sinus gland of the crayfish Astacus leptodactylus demonstrates that this gland is mainly composed of glial cells, axons and axon terminals. On the basis of the size, shape and electron density of the neurosecretory granules, we could distinguish five different types of axon terminals.

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1977
Abstract 1. 1. Composition of egg proteins of Astacus astacus and A. leptodactylus is compared by different methods. 2. 2. Disc electrophoresis reveals seven fractions in each case, four of them being identical in both species. 3. 3. By immunodiffusion (double diffusion test) three precipitin lines can be obtained, with one of them fusing.

A description of postembryonic development of Astacus astacus and Pontastacus leptodactylus
Freshwater Crayfish, 2020Abstract Morphology in general and developmental morphology in particular provide us with an insight into the evolution, phylogeny, ecological features, behavior, and life cycle of organisms. The present study describes the external morphology of the first three postembryonic developmental stages (Stage 13) of two prominent European crayfish species,

The site of synthesis of hemocyanin in the crayfish,Astacus leptodactylus
Experientia, 1991The in vitro incorporation of35S-methionine into hemocyanin was tested in the crayfish,Astacus leptodactylus. All organs assayed (hemocytes, heart, hypodermis, midgut gland, muscle and stomach) were able to synthesize proteins under our experimental conditions, but only midgut gland (=hepatopancreas) incorporated labeled methionine into a protein which

Biochemical analyses of the crustacean hyperglycemic hormone of the crayfish Astacus leptodactylus
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1986A biochemical analysis was made of the crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH) of the crayfish Astacus leptodactylus, as present in the CHH-producing perikarya, in the axonal tract and in the sinus gland, respectively. Hyperglycemic material was analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE and SDS-PAGE) and high-pressure liquid chromatography ...
