Polyhydroxylated Steroidal Saponins from Asteroidea (Starfish)
2000Steroidal saponins have been isolated from a great number of terrestrial plants, but are uncommon animal constituents. In the animal kingdom they are almost ubiquitous in starfish, while they have been found only rarely in other marine animals. On the basis of their chemical structures, the starfish saponins may be subdivided into three main groups ...

Global Asteroidea Occurrence Data
This is a dataset to accompany a paper to Nature Ecology and Evolution: Carter, Hugh. F; Bribiesca-Contreras, G; Williams, Suzanne T. 2025. Deep seafloor diversity in Asteroidea is shaped by competing processes across different latitudes and oceans.Carter, Hugh F +2 more

Steroidal oligoglycosides from Asteroidea (sea stars)
2001Starfish extracts have been reported to exhibit a broad spectrum of pharmaco logical properties, which are related to the presence of typical steroidal oligoglycosides. In the animal kingdom, these metabolites have only been found in Echinodermata and particularly in the class Asteroidea (sea stars).
