Impact of the initial disk mass function on the disk fraction

open access: yes, 2015
The disk fraction, the percentage of stars with disks in a young cluster, is widely used to investigate the lifetime of the protoplanetary disk, which can impose an important constraint on the planet formation mechanism.

Approximate Inference for Constructing Astronomical Catalogs from Images

open access: yes, 2019
We present a new, fully generative model for constructing astronomical catalogs from optical telescope image sets. Each pixel intensity is treated as a random variable with parameters that depend on the latent properties of stars and galaxies.

MXene‐Coated 3D Printed Horn Antennas for Ku Frequency Band

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An additive manufacturing approach to 3D printing horn antennas and coating them with Ti3C2Tx MXene is proposed. Rapid fabrication of lightweight, high‐performance antennas operating in the Ku‐band (12.4–18 GHz) has been demonstrated. The MXene‐coated antennas exhibit comparable electromagnetic performance to conventional, costly aluminum ones, with ...

Active Galactic Nuclei at All Wavelengths and from All Angles

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2017
AGN are quite unique astronomical sources emitting over more than 20 orders of magnitude in frequency, with different electromagnetic bands providing windows on different sub-structures and their physics.

High‐Transmission Mid‐Infrared Bandpass Filters using Hybrid Metal‐Dielectric Metasurfaces for CO2 Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 8, March 13, 2025.
This article presents a hybrid metal‐dielectric metasurface in transmission mode for mid‐infrared (MIR) spectroscopy. Composed of germanium on aluminium cylinders atop a calcium fluoride substrate, the metasurface achieves 80% transmission efficiency at λ = 2.6 µm with a narrow full‐width‐half‐maximum of 0.4 µm.

Shadows of rotating Hayward–de Sitter black holes with astrometric observables

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2020
Motivated by recent work on rotating black hole shadow (Chang and Zhu in Phys Rev D 101:084029, 2020), we investigate the shadow behaviours of rotating Hayward–de Sitter black hole for static observers at a finite distance in terms of astronomical ...

Improved Disorder Resilience in Small‐Footprint Photonic Cavities with Periodicity Breaking

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Compact photonic crystal cavities with engineered aperiodicity are demonstrated to sustain high quality factormodes and enhanced reproducibility within a minimal footprint. Combining numerical optimization and near‐field measurements, the study reveals how controlled periodicity breaking improves disorder resilience, offering a robust and scalable ...

Reduced Solar Quadrupole Moment Compensates for Lack of Asteroids in Long-term Solar System Integrations

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
State-of-the-art long-term solar system integrations include several second order effects such as the Sun’s quadrupole moment J _2 and a contribution from asteroids (plus the Moon and general relativity).

Study of conceptual metaphors of Russian astronomical terms

open access: yesModern scientist
