Revealing the Origin and Nature of the Buried Metal‐Substrate Interface Layer in Ta/Sapphire Superconducting Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The origin and nature of metal‐substrate interface layer in Ta/sapphire‐based superconducting films is investigated using synchrotron X‐ray reflectivity and scanning transmission electron microscopy. An intermixing layer, ≈0.65 nm thick containing Al, O, and Ta atoms, is identified at the interface.

Deep‐UV Light‐Emitting Based on the hBN:S/hBN: Mg Homojunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
S‐atoms are selected as donor dopants to achieve the n‐type conductivity of the hBN film. A theoretical model of S‐doping hBN using DFT calculation and experimentally prepared S‐doped hBN multilayers with a recorded doping concentration of 1.21% is established.

Quantifying Advantages of a Moving Mesh in Nuclear Hydrodynamics

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Many astrophysical explosions, such as type Ia supernovae, classical novae, and X-ray bursts, are dominated by thermonuclear runaway. To model these processes accurately, one must evolve nuclear reactions concurrently with hydrodynamics.

Advanced Solid Lubrication with COK‐47: Mechanistic Insights on the Role of Water and Performance Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study is the first to report the solid lubrication performance of the newly discovered Ti‐based MOF (COK‐47) powder. COK‐47 exhibits a remarkably lowest and most stable coefficient of friction compared to typical solid lubricants. The lubrication mechanism involves water molecules from the air participating in tribochemical reactions, forming an ...

A Bias‐Tunable Multispectral Photodetector Based on a GaN/TexSe1‐x Homo‐Type Heterojunction with a Unidirectional Barrier

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bias‐tunable multispectral photodetector based on a TexSe1‐x/GaN homo‐type heterojunction with a unidirectional barrier is proposed. By modulating the bias polarity and magnitude, the device's spectral response range can be extended from UV to the SWIR region.

Microbial preference for chlorate over perchlorate under simulated shallow subsurface Mars-like conditions

open access: yesScientific Reports
The Martian surface and shallow subsurface lacks stable liquid water, yet hygroscopic salts in the regolith may enable the transient formation of liquid brines.
