Predicting Exoplanet Occurrence Using Association Analysis

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Over the past few decades, a remarkable surge in exoplanet discoveries has led to a substantial increase in available data. As of this writing, over 5000 exoplanets have been confirmed, with thousands more expected from current and future observatories ...

Prospective Pre-School Teachers’ Attitudes towards Astronomy

open access: yes, 2016
The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in prospective pre-school teachers’ attitudes towards astronomy in terms of their grades. The study was conducted with 205 prospective teachers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th graders) studying in the education ...

Symmetry‐Driven Unconventional Magnetoelectric Coupling in Perovskite Altermagnets: From Bulk to the Two‐Dimensional Limit

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The symmetry‐driven coexistence of altermagnetism and (anti)ferroelectricity in perovskites shows a strong dimensional dependence. Upon reducing the system from bulk to the two‐dimensional limit, only C‐type antiferromagnetic order retains ferroelectrically switchable altermagnetism, whereas A‐ and G‐type orders become conventional antiferromagnets ...

Biomimetic Polymerization of Tellurocysteine: Breaking the Natural Amino Acid Radioprotection Limitation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural amino acid polymer‐melanin systems, this study strategically incorporated tellurocysteine to develop advanced radiation‐shielding materials. This approach transformed the primary interaction mechanism between melanin‐based materials and incident photons from Compton scattering to the photoelectric effect. Tellurocysteine‐polymerized

Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods for Bayesian Data Analysis in Astronomy [PDF]

open access: yesAnnual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2017
Markov chain Monte Carlo–based Bayesian data analysis has now become the method of choice for analyzing and interpreting data in almost all disciplines of science. In astronomy, over the past decade, we have also seen a steady increase in the number of papers that employ Monte Carlo–based Bayesian analysis.

Laboratory Experiments in Physics for Modern Astronomy: With Comprehensive Development of the Physical Principles

open access: yes, 2013
This book presents experiments which will teach physics relevant to astronomy. The astronomer, as instructor, frequently faces this need when his college or university has no astronomy department and any astronomy course is taught in the physics ...

Chiral‐Encoded Pt‐Ir Surfaces as Apparent Spin Filter for Enhanced Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Chiral‐Induced Spin Selectivity (CISS) effect is employed in chiral‐encoded mesoporous Platinum‐Iridium (Pt‐Ir) electrocatalysts to enhance the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). A break in spin symmetry leads to a substantial antagonistic difference in activity (>200%) when comparing two enantiomorphs of the same electrode.

Optimizing Convolution Direction and Template Selection for Difference Image Analysis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
Difference image analysis (DIA) is a powerful tool for studying time-variable phenomena, and has been used by many time-domain surveys. Most DIA algorithms involve matching the spatially varying point-spread function shape between science and template ...
