Databases & On-line Data in Astronomy

1991
Data archiving has, for many years, been the most disregarded aspect of all data systems. The increase in numbers of telescopes, both groundbased and space-borne, and the increase in efficiency of detectors have generated overwhelming amounts of data.

Database Services at the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre

1991
The Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC) was initiated by the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (DAO) to provide access to the HST data archives for Canadian scientists and to promote involvement in space astronomy research. A secondary goal is to provide a small centre of expertise in astronomical computing within the Canadian community. These goals

Development of a Planisphere Type Astronomy Education Web System Based on a Constellation Database Using Ajax

2006
In this study, we build a knowledge database that consists of topics planetarium curators have about astronomy and the stars. We suggest that the database should have a structure based on constellations and that mirrors the basic way in which humans perceive the night sky. Furthermore, we developed a web system for astronomy education using Ajax.

A special database for gas-phase compounds studied by microwave spectroscopy and radio astronomy

1993
A machine-readable literature compilation on free molecules has been established for microwave spectroscopy. The new bibliographic numerical resource also comprises molecular radio astronomy. The inhouse database, which can be run on personal computers with the well known Messenger retrieval language, enables the users to trace back literature by means

Declarative queries on large astronomy databases: Experiments with Hive and HadoopDB

2014
With the amount of data produced in several application domains, it becomes, in many cases, difficult to manage and query large data repositories. Within the PetaSky project (http://com.isima.fr/Petasky), we focus on the problem of managing scientific data in the field of cosmology.
